Revisiting spotify numbers for 2024 releases, BABYMONSTER CRUSHES 'top' groups

  • I previously made a thread on here with the total spotify streams for 2024 releases, I thought it'd be interesting to get an update on those numbers. I was planning to let Drip cook a little longer but I was curious. Maybe ill do 1 more at the end of 2024.

Pretty sure it's accurate, I'll let you all infer whatever you'd like from these numbers. Aespa numbers includes the solos since they are included in their discography on spoti. 2024 songs includes remixes like Crazy which has like 10+

  • I am happy that Aespa releases tons of songs but SM should stop giving them random filler songs!

Armageddon album had a lot of mid songs! Thank god we got awesome tracks for whiplash!

SM also should start promoting bsides!

None of the bsides were promoted this year except live my life and SM started promoting live my life so late that hype already died down!

That’s why aespa’s bsides streams are extremely low compared to tts

  • so it seems Aespa is not that impressive considering their song number, illit is impressive considering le Sserafim lastly, ıve's got me surprised with their low number. ı expect them more. and also people need to see the difference between nmixx and bm, one has a base of audience that follows and likes their songs.

Yea aespa is barely beating out baemon if you remove the ~50m streams that come from the members solos, but still good nonetheless. Illit's majority comes from Magnetic and their first album, same with baemon since Drip just released.

this is gg only? I'm curious to see skz and enhypen numbers

boy groups??? :pepe-cross: i do not have the numbers handy sorry but maybe one day I could gather them.

Changed the title of the thread from “Revisiting spotify numbers for 2024 releases” to “Revisiting spotify numbers for 2024 releases, BABYMONSTER CRUSHES 'top' groups”.
  • If this allows Lsf to rank higher, it doesn't matter in PigPD's eyes :S

    In next Hybe reports:

"Those monster babies, they keep releasing different type of songs and remixes... that won't work lol also I don't like their appeal"

"Continued creation of pointless threads will result in warnings and bans. STOP IT."

  • Please it is bcoz they have a lot of remix.

Baby monster only charted one song btw so crushing is a reach

Yes there are 15 version of Crazy alone, which is crazy.

And BM may not chart well but they still are up there with the big groups on spotify looking at total streams. Not just youtube success like some seem to think.

  • Drip charted at 142 now.

    still impressive

  • Wow the remixes really are a lot wth

  • Hi,

What about the per song average? Regional distro? Socialized data is only as good as the data pulls, otherwise you're not telling the whole story.

  • Here's lisa too I forgot to add her:

Rose and Jennie (not gonna count her features) only have 1 song in 2024 so not very interesting

    Hi,

    -knysom

I am limited to what I can pull directly from spotify. Only regional data they provide is top 5 cities for monthly listeners. Per song average might be more interesting if not for the sheer # of remixes each group gets now. Of the 42 songs LSF has listed in 2024, 33 of them are just versions of Crazy, Easy, and Smart.

  • So when you say "crushes top groups", does monthly listeners or followers mean nothing because there's a massive gap there? I'm just wondering why this is the only metric you're looking at considering such a bold statement.

  • because monthly listeners is a meaningless metric that kpop stans use lol. It's unfair to groups that are rookies or have a massive hit like Illit, same with followers. Unlike you I put some thought into the metric I used, 2024 releases is pretty fair.

I'm not sure how you determined it's a "meaningless metric". All metrics are meaningless in a vacuum, as is the one you determined was the only important one. But I'm getting a lot of defensiveness, so clearly there's not really going to be a meaningful discussion here, so good luck with your thread.

  • but it's obvious they are taking about 2024 releases though nothing wrong with this thread. I think is pretty fair

There's nothing wrong with analyzing data, but when you make a statement like "crushes top groups", you can't only come with one metric. It's quite silly to extrapolate any meaningful conclusion like that based on one data point.

Obviously, most of the metrics kpop stans use are arbitrary, but some are more meaningful than others. For example it's not exactly interesting or meaningful that aespa, a group that has existed since 2020, has more followers than babymonster, a rookie group.

Monthly listeners is probably actually decent if you look at the chart you posted, it's more or less in line with what I posted if looking at the 5th gen groups, though it does not show such a large gap between BM and KIOF, and obviously Illit benefits a lot off magnetic. But for older groups it's unfair because obviously they are benefitting from their established fanbase.

So that's why I went with 2024 total streams, it's still prone to issues like Magnetic but is more indicative of a groups success now, not in the past. If you disagree I'm happy to hear an argument against that.

  • I think they changed the tittle lol it's just because people are writing baemon off already and they are actually not doing that bad

Yeah I'm getting that now, especially based on the aggressive response I got that there's a lot defensiveness happening. Seems to be a pattern for me. haha

I'll just speak to where I'm coming from. Perhaps it's just because I'm also an artist, stream numbers alone are only important insofar as they create exposure and followers leading to an actual fanbase of people spending real money. Which is why music analysts tend to look at ratios rather than raw numbers.

Again, "success" is vague, and obviously Babymonster is successful, but I'm pretty sure we just disagree on what's important. I agree in that Babymonster shouldn't really be compared to well established groups, which is why I was confused on the title. I'm seeing now that there seems to be a lot of discussion on Babymonster vs. Kiss of Life vs. Illit, and that's appropriate I think. But to me, this stat alone isn't convincing me that they are somehow "crushing" clearly much more established groups like Le Sserafim, aespa, or NewJeans.

All of Babymonster's releases were in 2024 except for 1 single, so the only comparable artist in that case is Illit. Kiss of Life could arguably be in there but they also had 2 full EPs released in 2023. If your whole discography is in 2024 then this metric will obviously favor those groups.

hopefully it is clear I made this with BABYMONSTER in mind lol, don't take the title too seriously. Mostly to show they are putting up numbers on spotify that are at least competitive with other top groups. And their disco being in 2024 I don't think matters because groups like aespa/kiof/illit/lsf had at least 2 comebacks this year.
