Can people stop saying that we are in 5th generation?

No in 2020 I think ? Also groups from 2018 are sometimes called 4th gen as well (G-Idle, Stray Kids)
-
people are just desperate to draw these generation distinctions so that they can manufacture some achievements for their nugu faves (ex. "X is the most streamed BG of the 5th gen on spotify") and so they can make bold claims about their faves (ex. "X is the it girl of the 5th gen") without other kpop fans jumping down their necks for giving the faves unwarranted praise

Yeah, 4th gen relevancy is done for since early this year. The dominating spark is gone, and music is down big time.
The 5th gen will become more organized once SM, TBL, Source Music, Starship, JYP next gen girl groups debuted.
Solid leaders right now overall, Illit, BM and KIOL. They are some of the next faces of K-pop along the way.

IVE, New Jeans, Leserafim, Gidle, and Aespa are still dominating right now so I dont understand your point.

There is no hype, so many of these groups are underperforming. The current 4th gen trajectory curve is big time also reflecting K-pop market down for some time too.

My exact thought whenever I see someone saying "5th gen" lol. 5th gen haven't happened yet. All of the current groups are competing for the same fans with the same age. 2nd gen and 3rd gen had a different public appeal from each other just like 4th gen currently is easily distinguishable from the previous gens. These supposedly 5th gen groups haven't done anything different from the 4th gen groups to be considered a new gen.

A quick way to feel old is trying to follow all these generations with numbers. 😅

This topic has been discussed extensively, with many people holding differing views on generational classifications. It's clear that the first generation is distinguishable from the second, and the same with the third. However, I believe the fourth generation was prematurely concluded, perhaps to maintain the relevance of certain favorite groups. In my opinion, Xikers and Ateez share a similar sound, which is understandable given that Hongjoong and Edenary produce for both. Ateez debuted in 2018 and Xikers in 2023, yet there is no significant difference indicating that Xikers belongs to a fifth generation. They both clearly fall within the fourth generation.
Considering that the third generation lasted roughly from about 2012 to 2018, I believe the fourth generation, which began around 2018, should continue until at least 2025. Despite some media already referring to a fifth generation, I don't see any substantial evidence, especially among boy groups, indicating that we are in the fifth generation. This is my perspective.

A lot of Korean media outlets have referred to several groups as 5th generation and that's exactly the reasoning 4th gen stans used to define their faves as new generation groups.
I mean several groups called forth gen released songs as early as 2017. So it been 6-7 years. 4th gen acts are starting their contract renewal phase and soon several BG members will start the enlistment process next.
It's probably safe to say the 5th gen is starting
