I said that Newjeans or HYBE new girl group as they were called for a while would be bigger than any other 4th generation girl group especially internationally before they debuted when aespa then IVE were dominated and I was not wrong.
I was sure about that before they debuted because although I dislike this company, I trust HYBE the most out of the Big4 to make music that is universally appealing. The hype for them was big since the BTS privilege is bigger than any other Big4 privilege and Kpop fans were thirsty for a BigHit girl group. And some Kpop fans won't admit it because of how she is controversial now, but at first the hype grew even bigger when it was announced that they will be an ADOR group created by Min Heejin.
As soon as I heard Attention and Hype Boy, I knew that international Kpop fans would go crazy for them and that their songs had the potential to turn people who did not know much about Kpop into fans.
Fair enough.
Just to clarify: I don't sit around making excel files on who will be successful or not, but sometimes I just get a feeling like "woa they will be big!" like I did with Stray Kids
Did right: Seventeen, Stray Kids, TxT, iKon
Did wrong:
- NCT. Around 2017 I Thought they would keep stuck in sub average level of success
- The Boyz. thought they would be much bigger. Their growth stalled after Kindgom
- Ateez: Thought they would become a dark horse of 4th gen and eventually reach a big popularity, but after many years they are still fandom-driven group
Gidle debut with Latata and soyeon's involvement in it was a good glimpse of them doing well in future - and they are.
Wrong predictions:
ITZY - I thought would be much bigger than where they're right now.
Treasure - Thier predebut show had me convinced that they would be going side by side against SKZ (popularity wise) but YGE screwed that group over badly.
wrong - NCT Dream, their fandom is probably the 2nd biggest in SK, I never thought they would get that huge, even if it is mostly fandom power. I also never saw Seventeen getting so huge worldwide. ITZY seemed like the future too at one point.
right - NewJeans, Lsfm, TXT; all the HYBE groups I knew would do well. Although I didn't expect NewJeans to do this well lol. I also thought SKZ would never resonate with the SK gp but ifans would eat them up, and that seems true so far.

Illit may be my only wrong prediction, i was adamant they were going to flop but now i have doubts since everything about them so far have been pretty cool and interesting, so yeah we have to see if they will flop and i'll be right or if i really did a mistake
I didnt try to predict itzy / g idle / izone / aespa / stayc etc, although all of these debuts were very interesting
I thought Aespa would be bigger. I didnt think LSRFM would be as successful as they are in Korea and globally (i thought they would dominate mostly in Japan). I had no clue about New Jeans of course, they shocked everyone.
I was right about the downfall of 3rd gen when Next Level ended everyone in 2021. I was also right about the domination of Izone post disbandment. I knew that when Kpop powerbrokers conspired to destroy Izone so that they could let their 4th gen groups finally shine (Itzy, NMIXX, Baemon, Aespa, Stayc, Idle), that they would unwittingly trigger their own destruction. Now instead of one supergroup, they have to deal with six different Post Izone superstar acts all making waves in their own way.
Ive and LSRFM of course.
Yena and Chaeyeon being the best charting solo 4th gen acts. Yena also outselling 90 percent of all GGs.
Eunbi making huge waves as a variety show star.
Yuri about to become a household name for over 500 million folks around the globe when she makes her splash on Squid Games.
Big Bang, I remember being 10 at the time when I heard Blue & Haru Haru for the first time and thinking that it was the best thing since slice bread. Oh my kings, gone but never forgotten 😔
Funnily enough 3rd gen - which was suppose to be my generation, I never really got into kpop even though the BP & Twice hype was through the roof, I could barely name an idol in 2018 😂. Looking back I kind of regret not participating since all my friends in school were Kpop heads.
As an aussie I had to stan newjeans, I think it was a couple of months after their debut. I was curious to see who was the IT group and stumbled across this IVE group from an unknown company called starship, their MV only a few months old had 150M views and I was like yeahhh…there’s no hope 😅
