Is touring numbers the only copium left for onces?

So many acts in the music industry haven't put out a hit song in over 20+ years (ex. Metallic, Bon Jovi, Elton John, U2 etc) but they are touring to a consistent fanbase for 20+ years earning hundreds of millions of dollars each tour (in Elton John's case more than $2B from touring alone) Touring is the true testament to longevity and the main source of income for musical acts. Having hits is nice but if you as an artist can't tour to millions even after your heydays what is the point?

Twice pulled 2B streams with one cb, and the 3rd GG to do so last year, still relevant in Japan and the girls are booking brands deals.

There’s nothing wrong questioning about the top GG selling million albums with poor ticket sales.

Yes. TWICE is a much, much bigger name globally and generate way more interest.

At the end of the day, to most people touring is still seen as the biggest factor to consider for an artist to prove their popularity. It shows real demand, and is what makes the really big money. Kpop groups dream of touring like Twice. Selling out Nissan is A LOT harder and more impressive than charting on Melon lol..

With touring numbers there's nothing to hide behind and it really proves the groups' success.

The last pre release and Idle last English single flopped so bad. They couldn't even chart on Spotify.

Twice are like 9 years into their kpop career. They started at the top, held it for years, and now they sell out stadiums to their dedicated fanbase around the world. They're past their peak in terms of charting and GP attention, but they're in a spot most any group would wish for.

They are really annoying asking for groups who just debuted to have higher attendance concerts

It take years to build a strong fandom and reputation to outsell stadiums. No groups can do it before a couple of years. Give 4th gen time and they will get there, the older Boygroups are already there actually

No, they won’t have the longevity of some of the Western acts mentioned above. Metallica has a net worth of $1 billion - not bad for a band that hasn’t had a mainstream hit in 30 years.

Twice has such a strong fanbase that I think they’ll be able to tour for another 10 years if they wanted to despite becoming long in the tooth. News flash: Sana and company are still going to be beautiful in their late 30’s and beyond!

Even during their hey days Metallica never really had a "mainstream" another codeword for popular music, type of song. They had a very niche audience base but you would never tell because they are still racking in millions of fans per tour just on their name alone. I agree it is silly to be having heated debates over songs' singular chart success, I'm guilty of this too, but when looking outside of stan wars, touring is the best measure of success for any act and people on this site or kpop stans in general mocking that are weird. I would want my favs to still be alive and well touring in their 30th, 40th year even when I'm no longer a dedicated stan. At least if they are in my town, I'll try to secure tickets even when I'm in my 50s or 60s. Don't think kpop stans look to the future at all LMAO

sure, charting on melon is nice but being trendy is momentary too. Keep that in mind.

People talking about having hits, like the groups being trendy now won't fade too. Twice has been there and done that and now smash in touring your faves will only ever dream about.

Remember Gfriend and Momoland had hits and were trendy once. Now Twice can make enough in a single show to buy those girls houses from under them.

Touring, brand deals and their 10 years of sales and streams has been secured by a fandom that dwarfs all but a single girl group in history and they make enormous money from this. Money 99% of GGs will only see in their dreams.
