Has BLACKPINK surpassed Girls' Generation as the top girl group of all time?

Girls generation has been way too overrated anyways

SNSD was a tad overrated tbh. I feel like they moved more like a boy group, selling lots of albums but only one true national hit, Gee. The members havent done much since, Yoona for acting and Taeyeon for music, but the other 7 seemed to have faded away fast. Like when folks talk about Yuri these days, it's all about mah girl Jo Yuri who is traveling in IU's path as we speak.

SNSD is probably one of the most overrated groups when it comes to success. I said what I said.

There’s no denying they’re one of the biggest K-pop groups of all the time. BP has a better longevity and impact than them, Twice only declined in Korea, besides that they’re like ? Bigger in every metrics.

That happened long back.

BP is objectively one of the biggest girl groups of all times. Not just in kpop or korea.

What a silly thing to say in the grand year of 2024 when it’s been the case for a long while now.

Although, it is unfair to compare these 2 considering kpop times were different during their reign. Kpop wasn't as global back in 2nd gen so there was no way SNSD or any group that matters reach the height that Blackpink ever reached worldwide.

SNSD is being viewed through rose coloured lenses in a lot of the comments in the article. Like a lot of them keep mentioning about how SNSD is super talented. But SNSD was never known or viewed as a talented group.

Only Taeyeon was talented vocally. The rest of the group got by through visuals, catchy songs and nice idol personality. Same as Blackpink today.

Its still too early to compare Blackpink with SNSD. We need to wait a few more years to see how each Blackpink member does individually and as a group before we can officially give them the crown.

The main reason for this is due to the limited no. of songs Blackpink has released compared to SNSD.

Can't give them the crown as the best of all time with only 40 songs released.

I mean there are not many groups that can boast to have a better vocal line that SNSD has/had (five strong singers by industry standards). All you have to do is find some performance (radio, live band or ballad) where there's minimal backtrack. I think that's what the commenters are referring too.

As for the rest your reply well yeah, that's how K-pop (and most of pop music) works. You get recognize first by a combination of songs, charismatic personalities, vocal tones and singing skills. Singing skills being the least important usually.
