the competition among gg for 4th gen seems to be more intense compared to 3rd gen

I think it's because the idol industry is becoming more oversaturated with each generation. Plus, thanks to shows like produce, a lot of non big 3 groups are getting just as much attention and are just as anticipated as big 3 groups.

Twice, Gfriend, BLACKPINK & Mamamoo all got PAKs in one year and charted multiple songs on year end charts. Red Velvet didn’t get a PAK but had a slew of hits. Don’t forget Mamamoo and Bboom Bboom. there was also IOI and then apparently 4th Gen (Gidle and IZONE) all started in the middle of 3rd Gen (head scratch) & IZONE and Gidle all had decent size hits in 2018 as well. The competition to top the charts was way more competitive in 3rd Gen cause everyone could top it. It was unpredictable. Now only Aespa is really a 100% guaranteed chart topper. Sure, Twice was dominant but 2016 is the only year Twice had the undisputed top girl group hit of the year. Some groups are trendy, some have like one hit, and some of these are just uncertain.

Adding to that, many koreans consider AOA and EXID as 3rd gen as well (they debut same year as EXO). So the competition wasnt as easy as OP tried to potray for 3rd gen. Before 2016, AOA and the wave of sexy girl groups were battling against 2nd gen group like Sistar 4minutes Girls Day Apink on charts. They all have decent to big szied hits. Though only AOA and Girls Day made it big before Twice took over. EXID kinda flopped after 2 songs

i mean kpop has grown a lot since 3rd gen started (thank u bts) so there's more fans who all have different preferences so more groups are able to do well. I mean there's literally some people who make it their entire personality to just stan the nuguest groups lmaoo so the nugus end up getting some love too. groups from bigger companies have a fan base waiting for them even before the first member auditions lmao.

but this gen i doubt we'll have a Blackpink or twice. I think most of these ggs will just be one-upping each other with each comeback. intense

didn't you just answered the question? IVE will comeback tomorrow and we'll see hwo it goes. I doubt a #1 song specially with a Big Bang comeback but if they stay stable in the TOP 5/10 we can clearly say they are here to totally stay. Also don't forget LE SSERAFIM they are clearly going to have numbers at least in physical sales and I'm sure YNGG will smash too so summary yes. The 4th gen GG battle will be more intense than the 3rd one
