I did not expect IU's reputation to rise so significantly to threaten BTS, at least in Korea

  • Lee JIeun had reached the #1 position of KPop in 2017.

However on that year she scored 15.2% over all, being an average showing although better than her 2014 rating of 12.9%.

Although she was #2 behind BTS in this year, she was 32.1 under 40, and she was #11 for those over 40, around 7%, making the total rating close to 19.5%, third to BTS and Lim Youngwoong overall.

Which is quite remarkable since she will enter her 15th year soon, a rarity for those with so many years to still remain in competition.

    She also reached this milestone

    https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FHQfr2sX0AIl4fV?format=jpg&name=small

She became the first singer to surpass 6 billion digital points in Gaon, surpassing ... BTS.

She actually managed to wrest Korea back from BTS' hands in 2021.

With Adele no longer what she used to be, and Ed Sheeran largely accepting the reality that BTS is the supreme act on earth, there appears to be only one act on earth which is not afraid of BTS, and it is the same person who was the only person in the entire KPop who did not fear SNSD back in 2011.

I read comments after comment after comments about IU being dominant in Korea, and few i-fans appeared to be alarmed that she is , at least in Korea, superior to BTS.

Given she is releasing her unreleased number this year, it is likely that she will concentrate on acting next year and BTS will own 2022.

However, my fear is 2023 or 2024, when BTS' military services do begin and Lee Jieun will strike with an earnest not seen in years.

It seems BTS ' Greatest Rival is at home, and she is now getting better known around the world as the one person who could end BTS, just like she had ended SNSD back in 2011.

  • Any achievement by IU is incomplete, without WhyKnock 's weird Complain-brag about her.

I bet no other kpop or other acts, have a fan like WhyKnock for IU.

Every post reads like complaining about IU, doomsaying about her impact, but actually is highlighting her success.

Good job , you are the MUKF -Most Unusual Kpop Fan

  • we really should have an akp award for this lol

    whyknock would win hands down.

  • Complain-brag...lol, that's definitely a first. I like Whyknock because he teaches us Kpop history while also inserting elements of real history as well, i remember Whyknock incorporating Napolean Bonaparte himself into a discussion about IU and Kpop lol. I'd like to see at least one thread per day but not just about IU and BTS. I wanna know more about Izone for example, the prospects for Yuri, Eunbi, Ive, and the others as they go forward.

  • She is like the Olivia Rodrigo of Korea.

One lone Jedi Queen defending an entire nation against the onslaught of the Seven Sith Lords and their Evil Army Empire. :starec:

Lol no, Olivia is still new. She's more like Taylor of SK. Both are singer-songwriter and still exist and slay even when they're already in their 10+ years of their career. But no, IU is IU.

  • Pretend to complain but is actually bragging.

Must've used heaps of brain cells to come up this.

  • P.s IU stans one sided beef with BTS and armys will always be hilarious to me

IU stans don't have any beef with BTS fans, the real iu fans don't even talk about BTS, the trolls that use iu (like me) that have something against BTS, actually some armys that have beef directly with iu for reasons still unknown

Lmaoo good you recognise yourself as trolls. Armys acc to u that have beef with IU are probably bcos of trolls like u that use IU to hate BTS.

  • P.s IU stans one sided beef with BTS and armys will always be hilarious to me

This person isn't her stan though

    Same case as Art angel

They use her as a tool to piss off Armys because she is one of the only people who can compete with BTS in terms of success in SK, I hope you can see trough this

  • I think without a doubt IU is the most famous and recognizable singer in Korea. The "problem" for her with these polls and brand rankings or whatever is so many people who don't care about fandoms or idol culture or anything are the ones who listen to her music. I've lived in Korea over 7 years now and I don't know anyone who isn't very aware of her and what her songs are. Everyone knows Celebrity, Lilac, Blueming, Good Day, Friday, BIBI, etc. But just because everyone knows her and likes her doesn't mean they're passionate about her. Like a lot of people would say they like IU or like her songs, but also a lot of them wouldn't go so far as to say she's their "favorite" singer (which is how the gallup polls are done). BTS and Lim Young Woong have by far the two biggest fandoms right now which is why they dominated this year (and BTS every year).

  • She is like the Olivia Rodrigo of Korea.

One lone Jedi Queen defending an entire nation against the onslaught of the Seven Sith Lords and their Evil Army Empire. :starec:

She had done before against the 9 Princesses from the Sky, SNSD. She broke the Soshi bond, and decisively ended its destination . And she shows every intention to repeat that performance

  • By any chance, is this book titled, "Game of Thrones: KPOP Edition"?

Yes. I see the IU vs BTS struggle as a dynastic feud, between the reigning Kings and the Senior Singer who hides in a cloister, secretly plotting to undermine the Kings whenever she can so she can reclaim her power and lead Kpop back to the bad old days

  • Complain-brag...lol, that's definitely a first. Sorry, I only wrote about IZOne and its unsuccessful struggle against Lee Jieun. I didn't really follow them too much.

  • I rate this post 1/10 whyknocks. Missing the history lessons and usual flair.

P.s IU stans one sided beef with BTS and armys will always be hilarious to me

why not just call out those few usual suspects directly then instead of throwing every IU fan under the buss with general statements? Its almost like you have a one sided beef with IU fans

Lmaoo nice of you to turn it on me instead. I have no reason to have beef with IU stans, I don’t overlap with them at all. Anyways as another user said, this person is not even their stan? Idk. I thought they were a fan, just confirms the suspicions that it’s trolls and kpop stans who use IU to hate on BTS.

Its nothing against you personally, its just ive been seeing this sentiment on here for awhile, and its just rubs me the wrong way abit.

I get it, theres a few users, some stans im sure, but theres also many who just use IU as a tool at every opportunity to bash on BTS and downplay them because shes the only one who can still compete with them in a few metrics in korea.

Yes, I like that comparative conspiracy theories with history, as well :-)

As to Izone, Ive, Yuri or anyone, they are only 2 categories.

They have betrayed Kpop by paying filial duties to senior singer OR

If they haven't done so yet, then hope that they ignore the senior singer, defeat her and rescue Kpop.

  • When you say iU could end BTS, does that mean the end of K-pop as we know it since BTS are way ahead of all of them in all metrics? You do know how BTS practice social distancing from the rest when it comes to their numbers, right?
