How the heck to introverted idols deal with being around people ALL day without going insane?

  • I'm surprised by the number of introverted idols in kpop. They have to live in a dorm, get driven there in a packed van full of members and staff and in the venue there's always their own staff and staff of music shows or varieties instructing them.

They always have their members around. They have to shoot official content and then they have to shoot behind the scenes content too. Yes it's hectic but for someone that doesn't like being around people much wouldn't it be hell? Like even after an hour or two long conversation we need to relax to get back to normal but it's people people everywhere.

Has any idol ever spoken about it?

Edit: Wow it's nice to see a lot of different answers!

I think I was a bit unclear in what I defined as an introvert. I meant those specific introverts who need time alone to recharge or do not like prolonged social interactions!

  • I have actually thought about this too. But I think since being a celebrity is a job they probably suck it up and deal with it?

When they start off, they are in a group with people you already know and any group is bound to have a few people that take the lead with variety and stuff. So as time goes they start viewing their environment differently and maybe get advices here and their from their seniors on how to navigate the industry.

P.S. this is my take on how introverted idols deal with celebrity life. Please feel free to correct me.

  • Suga just sleeps all day to cope XD There's recorded proof in BANGTANTV (BTS's Bamgtan Bombs) LOL~~

Changed the title of the thread from “How the heck to introverted idols deal with people around people ALL day without going insane?” to “How the heck to introverted idols deal with being around people ALL day without going insane?”.
  • One of the biggest mysteries for me as well. Literally 80 percent of idols seem like and test as introverts. Twice is all introverts except for Sana, even Nayeon and Jihyo tested as introverts IIRC. Then you have people like Mina who dont leave the house for days or even weeks except to get food. Izone has maybe 2-3 extroverts in a group of 12.

Why would these introverts choose a career that is literally defined by social interaction? Like the social obligations literally never stop, even in those rare moments when you're alone at your dorm, you could have a Vlive or Insta scheduled.

  • I'm an introvert and I have to talk and touch so many people daily. It takes hours to calm my mind before I can sleep.

  • Even im surprised. when I go to someones house for a party or gathering, I always have this need to escape after 2 hours have passed, even if I know the people well.

I think introverted idols probably change their mindset regarding their career and just stick with it. it probably helps that a lot of groups have a mixture of extroverted and introverted idols. Like D.O doesnt talk much because, there is a Chanyeol, Baekhyun (who is also an introvert but loud) and Suho in the group.

  • Here's my take: same with us ordinary people, except since they live in a dorm, they'd have to manage their 'energy.' I don't think we always see them when they're doing Lives, besides, not everyone is always present on those. They'd either retreat to their rooms (if they're lucky to have one each, which I doubt) or to their personal corner. Once you learn how to effectively block the people around you, it becomes easier to co-exist with them even when you're not feeling it.

As for their jobs, it's part of what they do so they suck it up. Also, introverts don't always mean we're lonely or people haters; we tend to get fired up if we love and are passionate about what we do. We just need to recharge if things are too much. We also learn to adjust.

  • Maybe they play a role? Hasn't to be something negative I mean many idols expose their group members as someone who acts differently than in real life. I don't find that bad at all. As long as the true character does not go into the negative. I think many introverts play a role to be able to deal with the pressure better.

  • They just do it. I'm an introvert with social anxiety. So when I have to talk in front of people I die from the inside but as soon as I actually talk, I calm down a little. So they probably just suck it up because it's their job so they have to. I guess their love for being an idol is bigger than the fear. Because it can't be the money alone. Many idols were already rich

  • well this is probably how they all feel
