If you speak Korean you can feel the crack they put in the lyricism of their songs especially Next Level.
Something that will get addictive for a Korean speaker than a non-Korean speaker. Their songs were IMO generously written to get stuck in your head besides aespa's members' good vocals that enhance the experience.
For example the line "야수 같은 나를 느껴" "Yasu gateun nareul neukkyeo". The word "yasu" that starts off the sentence isn't enunciated normally but it's the combination of Winter and the back vocals screaming "YA" then Winter continues the word "su...gateun nareul neukkyeo" (Which means feel me I am a beast btw).
Moments like these make the song so fun for the listener that they crave to sing along or dance to it.

these are that I could think of...
Gp wants the Classic Kpop music back, because nowadays it has been globalized so much that sort of lost korean spice in it. Meaning each groups has their own unique image attached to them.
Aespa is distinguish themselves with certain sound and concept. With mere mentions of ae, naevis or [ pose you know who that is (you will thinking about them) - the way on how Kpop run throughout the years.
Fyi, their Bside - aenergy (song about their lore) become the highest charting 2021 Bside track by a GG on melon. That's the testament on how Koreans liking aespa lore aka their own unique concept.

Wow some of you need to stop with this dumb narrative
f(x) and red velvet didn't have a hit and we can hardly consider that fx have a national hit even if they are big 3 gg
And yes aespa had a hit with NL in their 1st year
And even if some get a hit it's a big challenge for them to maintain their sucess just like Miss A and itzy who had a debut but they didn't do as well next, touch,i don't need a man etc... Aren't sucess
And icy wasn't neither
But aespa are proving that it's not because they have a hit but they are also able to mantain their popularity with the success of savage in the chart

Would be a missed opportunity not to milk that cow.

The fact a lot of you are under the impression that the gp actually checks out the newest groups from the big 3 like Kpop fans is hilarious. If aespa's Next Level wasn't a hit that was talked about after going viral, many of them wouldn't know aespa or the fact SM had a new group. If the majority of gp listeners care about companies like obsessed Kpop fans then you would have seen more hits by bgs at least.

And to answer to op base on the koreans comments what make aespa popular is that they bring 2nd gen formula of success back with a modern switch to it
They are bringing back the easy to dance chore in chorus who are quickly addictive to see, the repetitive hook easy to sing along, and the gimmicky type of kpop that we had before
And their concept, visual and sound also bring this twist who make gen Z interest, because their concept is very modern/futuristic
Even in their personality they are really easygoing with strong visuals
And they all have their own charms
You can really relate to them because they have a really girl next door charms
But their weird mysterious concept and the way they are promoted as a group with strong image, luxury photoshoot and brand deal, add to them a very mysterious ,kinda unnaprochable vibe

not this narrative again fx and RV did not hit it off in their first year neither did SNSD
Not at you forgetting 'Nu Abo', 'Ice Cream Cake' & 'Dumb Dumb'. Even 'Happiness' became the first kpop girl group debut song to chart on Billboard World Singles chart. Also had around 3m views before it was removed.
I can get behind SNSD though. But they shouldn't be in this conversation. They alongside Wonder Girls made kpop girl group music popular in Korea.

You don't get national hits in debut years. Only 'Cheer Up' & 'Next Level' are the exceptions.
I'm not undermining Aespa. It's great that they have kept people interested in them. It's not that easy.

And also another things that Kpop fans internationally don't seem to understand everytime they said " they are charismatic on stage that's why they are successfull"
is that the GP doesn't care about kpop group performance, only kpop fans do, the GP listen to the song on melon and if they are interested maybe watch a performance
and what SM is doing with all their GG is that they always put the highlight on their GG vocal before performance
that's why so many people are praising aespa
Because through Aespa they also get a throwback to 2nd gen where Kpop groups cared more about singing and vocals than performance, that's why the GP likes them
they aren't just a kpop group who released good music
they are a kpop group who release good music, and they can heard that they are talented, that's why they support them so much

The aes have badges???
yeah since the new Aespa badge
the AE have been included since a lot of MY wanted them
-
RV, both Happiness and Be Natural weren't hits.
Most SM ggs actually don't hit it off right from debut. SNSD took two years to become the nation's GG (they were massively overshadowed by Wonder Girls until then), f(x) only got their first win with Pinocchio in 2011 (even though Nu ABO in 2010 was their first 'hit' song), RV only became truly popular with Ice Cream Cake.
The only other SM GG to do this well right from the beginning was S.E.S

I think their concept appeals to those teenage fanboy. Also the video game and futuristic elements are fresh. The title tracks by Aespa didn't remind me of the any 2nd generation song at all. From the album Aenergy and Yeppi Yeppi are just were inspired a little bit old music but their title track always more electronic hiphop heavy. Maybe because it is a balanced group, I don't think there is a dominant member that stands out, they are balanced in terms of talent.

It surprised me too cuz aespas songs aren't gp friendly releases. However winter and karinas visuals are very loved by knets, the girls are fun and have a lot of personality on varieties even if some are introverts so ig they are very likeable even beyond their music. That's kinda an important factor too.
Big 3 privilege can grant visibility most groups don't get, but big 3 privilege alone can't make a song a hit with the gp. Plenty of big 3 ggs heck even from sm itself didn't have a very explosive hit after hit like aespa does rn besides I think snsd.
Aespas songs definitely have a catchy vibe to them. Their lyrics are nice too so I'm kinda happy they are popular ngl. It's a unique concept and I hope the rest of kpop also follows their sci fi trend instead of the same old sexy fanservice or cute girlfriend kinda concepts.

Karina's existence + Next Level being one of the most addictive K-pop songs out there.

I have seen people here make fun of Aespa's lyrics but it seems actual native Korean speakers find their songs addictive 🤷
I only dislike the random English lyrics sometimes that can come off as cringy but their Korean lyrics IMO are so interesting.
