Do people follow Kpop because of groups achievement ?

They don't need to voluntarily know about success, but I'll also ignore those who talks badly about them without know them.

Some do and imo that’s all some care about. For me, I listen to groups for their music.

of course. I see it all the time, sometimes it confuses me, because I think it really doesn’t matter if somebody gets number one, or number two, or any number. It’s almost like these Kpop fans live vicariously through their idols…. I just can’t deal with reading the comments of an mv, and it’s just fans saying stuff like “can we get this to 50 million by next Tuesday” or “can we get this to 100 million for *idols* birthday” it’s like, do you really think this is going to make the artist so happy, like it’s just views! and I’m sick of it because the fans than use it to go and insult other groups, like “my group has reached number one 50 times” it’s like who CARES. It’s boring and over done and I really think a lot of fans have lost touch with reality, how can you care so much about someone you don’t know? it’s mind boggling to me, because I just want to listen to good music. That’s all. I couldn’t care less if there was 500 views.

I doubt it tbh. Bc will you keep listening to some group just bc of its achievements? It doesn't make sense to me.

What I think is: kpop were always about "competition" so when some "enter" the kpop world they can be interest enough to know about how their faves are doing and while searching it the "fanwar" appears and this make some have a "protective" mode on and there it goes this cycle that we are now.

Achievements are part of anything, soccer, movies, music, college, work, everything. It's just that you see it more in kpop bc it's where you may be more active, but really, achievements and competition is more common than fanwars.

I am sure some do, but that doesn't mean all of them. I check out my achievements when I see one, but I don't go searching for it.

A lot do. A fair few focus on the achievements over the actual content. They're plastics.

How many all kills even though they don't matter (it's not all kills mean more streams)

How many YouTube views

How many lines on Twitter

And now there's a new one: how many times they got mentioned in the Olympics.

Solely because of achievements? I doubt it. Though I can see why based on some people's constant need to flex even the most minor of achievements. They do definitely play more of a role than needed IMO because the obsession just turns into toxicity.

Idk about comparing groups and irrelevant records like 100 millions for idols birthday, etc but some of the big achievements most certainly do make idols happy. It is like hardwork is finally paying off? Maybe

not for me...you will rarely see me posting a thread on achievements or in an achievement thread

That is true. I obviously do get that idols like to win awards and chart high, thats normal. It’s just that the obsession within the Kpop fandom makes me go nuts.

I kind of understand it. I did that too when I was 13. I had to justify to myself why I chose an Xbox over a PlayStation. Or when I was 15 and I had to justify why I chose an Android phone over an iPhone. I had to believe I made the better choice otherwise I would feel inferior.

I still do that right now, on my 20s. Nobody is convincing me to ditch my Samsung for Iphone

I don’t think solely for achievements because they had to have discovered k-pop somehow but I do think some fans are success fans and only like groups when they’re successful.

i follow some groups or soloists with major achievements (bts, twice, iu, rv etc.)

hence, it comes as a package. it's not like I can block information i see in my timeline about it.

however, i do not care about achievements of my other faves like "most viewed or most like rookie who debuted in year xx from xx company in xx year", when there is only one rookie in that company. that's nonsense. lmao. like dude.

No not solely based on achievements but besides that I don't see anything wrong in people hyping up achievements either like why should I feel ashamed of being proud of my faves achievements while enjoying their music also.

Probably some do. I don’t. Achievements are just like little things to be celebrated but who would stan just bc of that? You can’t actually listen or watch an achievement right? Although some people probably token stan successful songs or artists, I mean there was a song recently that was hated but when it became a success people changed their tune 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

I find that very difficult to believe. Actually I find it silly.

It's natural that the most popular and successful groups would have more exposure and be often the first group a new fan gets introduced to. So success might be an indirect cause but I can't believe people would intentionally start following a group for their success.

What's certain, however, is that many will proceed afterward to use that success as a validation of their own supposedly superior taste and intellect. Actually I believe fans who obsess so much over their faves' stats are the ones that live vicariously through their faves' achievements.

So on AKP, Kpop stans have decided it's lame to buy your faves music or stream their songs. They have also decided that their faves don't care about awards or being recognized for their hard work. They have also decided that they don't want their faves to be successful. What I've learned in recent weeks on AKP is many of ya'll don't really like ya'll's faves and I hope they get better fans soon.

My faves were being dragged about their lack of achievement when I stanned them, so I dont.

The ones who need to make up fake achievements for their faves are probably the best candidates for success stans.

and I agree, inventing fake achievements for ones faves is more of a success stan.

Some people invariably would, just to join the most popular trend.

It is not bad, achievements help introduce an act to new listeners, but if the listeners are actually into music, they can be retained only by good music.

But there are folks, who just want to swag, name drop and shine in the reflected glory of a famous person/band etc. these are shallow folks, who have little to no idea about the music, the act or the industry.

Classic case: Idiots who think IU is popular because of Jungkook or Suga-Eight.

So achievements do help.

Yes and some admitted about how kpop made them interested in economics, charts and whatever

I believe they entered k-pop either because of music and visuals. Although, I also believe some fans don't criticize their fave's music as long as it brings them more achievements to brag.
