Never got that level of confidence with someone on the internet, pretty close once, but I was a minor and I would have got to go to the other side of the country and it didn't look like happening.

Is that an ex or current bf? I'm confused..
me too. Me too. LOL
He’s the type to say we’re not together anymore on the weekdays and to give him space but the on the weekends he love bombs me and tells me how he wants to get married.
So I am also thoroughly confused

I used to make YouTube videos. One of the viewers recognized me at school and we became good friends. It wasn't awkward because we instantly bonded over what I usually talked about in my videos, although it made me feel weird thinking others may have recognized me without saying anything.

Not any close friends yet, but have done meetups with fellow model horse collectors and they were all super nice I do hope to meet up with some of my actual friends someday but two live in faraway countries so travelling would be hard

Nope.

Yep, loads. I met my boyfriend when I was seventeen on a writers’ website, and a few others from it. He was the first. It wasn’t awkward at all. We met in a group and then left the group to go off on our own. We’re still on good terms twenty years later.
Then, in the early 2000s, I met dozens of people off a forum I was on several times in big meets or smaller groups. I even lived with one of them in London for two years. We were very close. I am still friendly with a lot of people to this day.
Met my boyfriend when I was 22 on a website called (I think) Faceparty. That one was not so successful in the long run!
In more recent years, I met up several times with a friend off a forum I was on (but that was kind of a spin off from the one from the early noughties) and she has even stayed at my house and I’ve visited her. Tbf though, she was kind of a friend of the earlier friends. We’d just never crossed paths until much later.
Currently, I have a very close friendship with a woman that has developed over the last year, mostly on WhatsApp/Voice messages. That is technically virtual as we have not yet met, but I added her on Facebook and we got close when I discovered she was ARMY last May. We will be meeting up in London when I can get my next Saturday off work. That’s not quite the same ‘though, as she was my husband’s supervisor and friend.

When I was 18ish I was in a Jpop-rock forum. I met up with the forum members when there was a jrock concert. It was weird to meet but after that we had monthly meetings. The forum admin actually had monthly jrock parties and we all meet that day. And meet on the forum the other days. Not the full forum just around 15-20 member.
I still keep in contact with 2 of them and that was….17 years ago.

That’s so wholesome! I’m glad you had a great experience and made fond memories overall. Was this a locally/regionally-based forum?

My best friend and I met on an anime forum when I was 15 and she was 13. We met irl for the first time when I flew over to her country for a BTS concert and then next year she flew over to my place to stay with me for a week. It felt natural right away because we had been talking for around 7 years by the time we saw each other in person for the first time. We're a few months away from our 10th anniversary which is insane to think about.
-
Few years ago, we stopped playing that game already though but we still hang out. Just haven't done so recently
-
No, it was a country wide forum. But the concert was in the capital city so those who were living close by used to meet up every month. Some of us even more. The full group was around 15-20 people but there was clicks of course. Lol Some of them started a jrock cover band lol I was friend with that group.
So much good memories I have with them. Meeting up in the weekends to go to they practice, or meet in the McDonald’s before the party. Just 20 of us being loud walking around in the city in groups dressed very f*king weird. Lmao

I was too young for such activities then, but I’m guessing forums tended to be much more active back in the early 2000s. People were probably much more expressive and free, too. Now most of us are afraid of sharing too much (understandably so). It must have been exciting for all of you.
-
Do you still have LAN shops (we call them LAN cafes here in oz) in Singapore????
Yeah we still do of course
-
Lol Yeah. 17 years ago, I don’t know if they still do it. But instead of more expressive it was more strange. Nobody was used to that those days, kpop, jpop was hardly a thing. The only Asian forum in the city and it had maybe 300 members.
Itwas kind of weirder those days since some of was dressed as a full blown Gothic Lolita or just simple Goth clothes. Walking through the streets in groups lol even if there was 2-3 guy for 15+ women people separated before us and gave us dirty looks.
Not like we cared. I think I miss being that innocent and not giving a f*k about peoples opinion.
