    I've seen some MYs saying SM should’ve pushed aespa to do the HUNTR/X cover and they could have handled the vocals better. It's really not an easy song to sing live, even the OG singers had to lower the pitch when they perform live.


    Do you think aespa could have pulled off “Golden” live with minimal to no backtrack, similar to what BABYMONSTER did? Thoughts?

    No Kpop idol has ever sung the entire song without backtrack (or autotune or lipsyncing). In fact, i have only seen three examples of a complete Golden cover, sung completely without any of these things, and i'm talking in all of Youtube not just limited to Kpop versions.


    The closest we have ever gotten to authentic Kpop renditions of Golden are these short clips, with NMIXX Lilly and Ahyeon bravely doing it completely acapella but for only 30 seconds or so:




    So no, nobody in Aespa could do it. If they could, they would have done it in the past 6 months when EVERYONE was doing covers. Nobody in Babymonster could do it either, and we have yet to see Lilly or anyone else do the full song in one take, live, with only normal vocal effects added like echo/reverb that dont change the actual pitch being sung.

    By the way, it looks like Ejae is honorable enough to admit the truth. She was never supposed to sing it live, it was supposed to be a studio creation for an animated movie. Nobody couldve predicted how huge it would become.


    I thought as much when we didnt get a single performance from the OG singers in the past six months when it was blowing up huge, and the two times they've actually done it recently were completely autotuned and backtracked.

    yes, but later haft of the question is "like BABYMONSTER" so I think aespa can do it.

    Even me being a guy can sing the original key with just some years of choir, so they could probably do it with enough practice. The problem with Golden is not the high notes, they're easier to pull off than a lot of people may think, it's the stamina and constant transitions from chest - mix that are hard to do consistently. In the cover, technically Pharita had the hardest parts of the song, and you could tell that even with some strain she did kinda well in those parts (The first pre-chorus and the build up). For high notes it may be hard at first reaching the note for some, but once you're in the placement it will feel comfortable to just stay in that space.

    As someone already said, transitions and range are key parts of the song. The high notes get easier once you get in the zone and I'm guessing Ahyeon's transitions aren't that smooth hence why she stayed UP UP UP there the entire performance but then again, she's UP UP UP there most of the time.


    Imo to cover a song properly, you don't just need to get the notes right, you need to replicate the mood properly, also. When EJAE and friends sing it, I feel warmth and I actually feel Golden. When Ahyeon and friends sing it, I find myself bracing for when next she'll explode with high notes cuz I've seen that she's almost always open. Was it a bad cover? Nope. But it would've been even better if Ahyeon had the warmth and control of Rora and Rami's lower register.


    That being said, no one in AESPA has that warmth. Ningning comes the closest but SM and their stupid high notes preventing me from accurately assessing if she's capable of that.


    Generally, there is not a single cover of Golden that has impressed me because they all sing it for the purpose of showing off and not to actually sing it with proper artistry.

    And thats where personal opinion comes to hand, imo baemon is better vocally, they are a group full of main vocal and great lead vocal.

    Aespa are good too, but baemon are better.

    And yes, baemon has more experience or else it should be Aespa who is singing live left and right in their performances, but wait, it is not. It's baemon.

    Thanks for posting. I'm unsure how we're acting like NingNing wouldn't be able to perform this song live. Again, Aespa wouldn't be my choice to perform this song, but I think they're more than capable of performing it. As long as NingNing is there, then they will be able to perform Golden


    I think if we're looking at 5th gen groups, then I think Fifty Fifty might be best choice. Chanelle and Hana's cover is one of the best covers from a kpop idol. Plus, Athena voice is very good too, and I think the 3 could've done a great job if given the chance
