Should labels start collabing their GGs and BGs?

  • Since All Day Project has been thriving even amongst stupid controversies over the alleged member's relationships, I do believe is about time we get to see male and female idols working together to make kpop entertaining again.

Write away your thoughts on the matter and the collabs you'd like to see amongst groups under the same label or different labels. Or do share why you don't think it'd be a good ideia.

I'd like to live in a kpop fan world where Twice's Momo, Sana and Jihyo did a collab with Jackson.

And how come we don't we talk about this release enough

How many times they must've shot this without laughing and hoping both got their teeth thoroughly brushed before shooting the MV. The vibes, ugh, totally worth it ♥

  • Unfortunately, Bibi and Jackson Wang are either a generation too old or exist completely outside Kpop spaces to make any waves with current Kpop fandoms.

Now, if you put It Girl Karina and It Boy Jungkook in this video, you will literally see one of the greatest earthquakes to ever hit Kpop (just like how V and Jennie dominated threads for weeks here).

Putting active top tier BG idols in a feature of an active top tier GG, or vice versa, will do nothing but risk endless waves of controversies.

With Jhope and LSRFM, i dont think any Fearnot or Army asked for it. Same with putting someone like Winter in an NCT video, literally zero Mys or NCTzens would have asked for it.

There is no need to add unpredictable risk to groups that are already doing well.

I'm glad we got to live it

TWICE and 2PM are ready to collab, I feel it

  • Yes

Yes they absolutely do. I'd almost say its a necessity.

This prudish, childish and mentally ill mindset of current kpop fans that boys and girls shouldnt interact needs to be killed. Violently.

There WILL be short term pain as the mentally ill weirdoes and sociopaths gnash their teeth and cry and stomp their feet, but eventually it will normalise as people become used to the idea that adult males and females, and even teenage males and teenage females can and do interact, even if some fans are such degenerate children that never interact with anyone, let alone someone of the opposite gender.

If they start soon, they might even be able to make things normal by the next kpop generation.

  • Earthquakes are the epitome of nature's power. Jennie and V got out of it even more popular and relevent.

No fan asked for LSF and JHope collab because they didn't know they needed it. It's already do much fun and no doubt we're about to have a comeback that will make extended waves. It's worth the risk, the fandoms are in good terms and the chances of it going viral is almost tangible.

I can see it going sideways, but still, it'll be the talk of the town for awhile. The higher the risk the higher the expected return.

    Let's have more faith here

Kpop could teach this new generation how to interact with one another again. Idk, insert in those little brains the desire to interact and maybe even save nations from low birth rates

  • Features usually happen between soloist, and it's usually on b-sides. I think kpop should have more collaborations because fun songs can be created and help groups explore their sound. It's why I enjoy soloist content because you get to see a side of an idol that can't be shown in a group. I think the exposure can help both parties out and unsure why companies don't leverage it more. For example Soyeon most likely got good exposure being featured on a Key song and most likely put more eyes on Idle

  • I'm fine with it but idk if mid level ggs would be able to deal with crazy people invading their Instagram comments and lives

So they'll be still at disadvantage, widening the gap

I confess my egoistics intentions wishing upon the co-ed collabs, cause' I'm not thinking of anything other than pure entertainment

I wish smaller groups well, buy hey it could be their chance to draw in unhappy stans

    we love em'

  • would it? i'd like to see them try

we've had a 17 member group in past, why not now? 3 second lines per couple could work lol

I was more thinking in terms of scheduling as oppose to line distribution

for nugu and less successful groups fine but imagine trying to coordinate some of the more popular groups - like half the time in a top group the members will be off doing their own thing outside of group related stuff

    hummmm, you're right

Sectioning the members by units within the groups to collab could be a way to work it even though I still see the difficulty. Maybe something especial like Gayo Daejeon, no more than 1 week on live stages and a bunch of promo vids. The co-ed collabs could become a year-ending sort of event, given the fact the dying award shows already take place around this time of the year. It could even be a life line to those award shows, like MAMA. "This year SM will make two bg and gg collab, wonder who'll it be"

I can see units or just a few members within a group collabing with a few members of another group - that's possible

it doesn't even need to be for a special - you can actually get them to promote for it for like half a week (Thursdays-Sundays on the music shows or even less if it's too hectic) with actual songs

can you imagine the hybe if you got like GD/Taeyang with Rosé/Jennie or a couple of Riize members with Aespa members or SKZ with Twice etc etc

ignoring the actual quality of the music but both fandoms would get in on the action and the companies would make a killing

  • Every one of those toxic, parasocial fans' heads will EXPLODE because they'll instantly jump into the "OOOO...... I bet they're dating" conclusions.

So the idea of male and female groups collaborating is a massive clustershit!!!

In the words of The Office's Michael Scott.......

  • Only if we let the toxic and parasocial shine through their madness. They are not majority, just louder than most of us

  • They’re not all that successful though? They don’t look like they have high album sales or are making money.

Any combination of anything can go viral imo that doesn’t mean anything. I don’t think a group like all day project is successful as there’s nothing to show that they can sell album, tour etc aka do the things that make money.

It's not how most of kpop work.

Event appearances and brand deals are the best sources of money in kpop due to the low cost and effort requirements. Virality helps celebs earn these jobs.

  • This one's my favourite male/female duet this year.

I love the contrast between their voices. Also liked it was a proper duet where they went back and forth rather then a 5 second feature.

Another one is I like is this.

They treated her like one of the crew and Giselle blended in nicely with the vibe. Wish SM tried something similar again.

And it won’t hold a candle to long time merch sales and touring lol.

Also they don’t seem to have alarmingly more brand deals than the average big company group.

Anyway point stands anything can go viral. It’s building a fandom that’s hard. What happens when that group stops having Korean hits? They’ll fade cuz they don’t have any fandom.

Unless such a group is able to develop a fandom, companies will not go out of the way to debut such groups.

  • And it won’t hold a candle to long time merch sales and touring lol.

    Merch yes, touring no.

There is nothing better than just appear in an event and get the money without doing anything else.

Also they don’t seem to have alarmingly more brand deals than the average big company group.

ADP is a 4 months old group from a non-big company. They are definitely have more brand deals than most big company groups (i.e H2H, Kickflip, Nmixx, Babymonster, NTC Wish, etc).

And what happens when that group stops having Korean hits? Then company will switch to other groups, the idols can switch to other things. It'll be easier to do so (that starting from scratch) after building reputation from previous hits. That's why many top 1st gen idols are still active in the entertainment industry.

It's whole purpose of being idols, a stepping stone. Developing fandom is not a must in kpop.

  • What a HILARIOUS joke. Touring is where most of the money is at 😭 you think brand appearance make the same money as millions of dollars a night for concerts.

Teddy is a big name I see them as YG adjacent they’re not nugu. Also I think they got big with brands not because they’re coed but because of the chaebol stuff

Yeah if the goal is to switch over after Korean hits like how 2nd Gen GGs did for example debuting groups like ADP makes sense. But again they’re probably not even making as much money as mid tier group who tours lol. Probably even less than that.

  • J-Hope did quite a few dance collabs with other idols, including several women

    Also, this:

I'd like to see more interaction though with idols of different genders

  • It's something I would not be a fan of.

Usually because it's not very well executed.

Sure, there are some exceptions, like Rose x Bruno Mars had such fun chemistry together, and for Lollipop back in the day it was really fun to see Big Bang and 2NE1 go back and forth, and ADP have a similar sort of chemistry so I like them too.

But unless you have this sort of vibe I usually find it detracts from the experience, not enhances it.

  • ADP is a 4 months old group from a non-big company. They are definitely have more brand deals than most big company groups (i.e H2H, Kickflip, Nmixx, Babymonster, NTC Wish, etc).

Actually all these groups you mention have more brand deals than ADP

ADP is going to a lot of fashion show but they have no brand deal with any of the brand fashion show they attend

Actually they had their first brand ambassadorship deal just a few days ago when they become ambassador for "Bose"

On the other hand a group like H2H ( i mention them cuz it's the one i follow the most closely)

Already have deals with barenbliss, converse korea, pokemon legends Z A, musinsa, mega MC coffee, KB kookmin bank, 2an beauty etc....

And i'm sure a gg like Babymonster must have more brands deals

I think the problem with ADP is that they are a co-ed group so it's harder to promote them through brand deal as a whole group

For example Makeup brand hire a lot of idols, but considering that makeup is usually for women, brands hired female idols or female actress

So it's hard to try to get a deal with a co-ed group knowing you will see the attract for only half of the group

Co-ed group have their advantage and disadvantage

  • After the LSF and Hobi news, we have Yeonjun and Daniela being teased! (If it seems vague be aware that yj dropped a hint nobody understood initially but now we know it meant Daniela lol)

  • collabs between gg members and bg members exist and there's mountains of it tho?

if we're talking actual groups collabing, it's rare even for groups of the same gender so like, what do you mean with this question? like super groups?

closest example is probably the smtown albums where you had different units of members of SM groups performing together which was pretty fun. I think there was a rumor of a possible new co-ed superM/got the beat type of supergroup to come out in the future, and I guess the recent success of adp might help SM push that idea forward.
