So has the NewJeans fad worn off yet?

For the entirety of their debut era, and for pretty much all of 2023, several people here used their mysterious powers of clairvoyance to predict the quick rise and fall of NewJeans.

They foretold that these kaijuu rookies were destined to suffer the same tragic fate of all prior fourth generation girl groups who were touted to be the next big thing before losing their relevance and fanbase once the next shiny new girl group walked on to the stage.

Well NewJeans is officially 1.5 years old, and that prediction is starting to age like weeks old room temperature milk

And if any of us were curious about how much demand there is for NewJeans, there is an event in Singapore this weekend. A collaboration between NewJeans and this small, up and coming company named Nike.

The event will be held here:

24,000 people registered to be a part of this event. Only 75 were chosen to attend this special stage. Including yours truly

Okay, I wasn't actually chosen, because ain't no way I could swing going to Singapore on such short notice, but if there is this much demand to attend a small event in Singapore, I don't think the Bunnies will be migrating elsewhere any time soon.

NewJeans' touring is the last bit of cope gatekeeping fans of girl groups from previous generations have left. You know what, let's not even be vague on who I'm talking about. It's the last bit of cope for Onces (who have mostly come to terms with the rise of NJ) and Blinks (who are mostly in denial about the inevitable changing of the guard).

A girl group, that's not even 2 years old, being expected to tour like the two biggest girl groups in K-Pop history, both on their second contract, is completely asinine, but IF they start touring and pull big numbers...

I had some smoke for Bot7654 but I think he went and got banned. He must've seen how Get Up was doing on BB200 and preemptively gotten himself banned before I could come for him

So many people were extremely transparent in hoping that group would debut and immediately overshadow NewJeans. So much for that.

The moral of the story is when a girl group debuts with zero warning and hype, and speedruns every single K-Pop achievement we care about in barely one year, most of said achievements being things no girl group has ever done before, we shouldn't call them an overhyped fad group

No wonder SM execs are getting fired. They paid millions to a consulting firm to study NewJeans, a group that will clearly be dropped the moment the next big girl group debuts

NewJeans are so obviously just a flavor of the month trend that will dissipate into irrelevance when the next big thing debuts. That's why no other active girl groups tried to replicate their triple title track strategy last year.

Imagine a flop fad group like NewJeans having any tangible impact on the industry.

Internationally, their latest album, especially Super Shy, significantly outperformed their previous songs and received an insane amount of positive critical claim from the biggest music publications and critics around the globe
