another loss for 3rd gen stan...WJSN and MOMOLAND are rumoured to be disbanding T_T

Momoland's future was already sadly set when the company started ditching members left and right but WJSN is a bit surprising since they seemed to always be doing decently. I mean......did winning Queendom 2 actually even mean anything??

i'll wait til it's official. i have a hard time trusting rumors

Well WJSN had a good run. At least they were active and almost always delivered with good music.

These middle tier 3rd gen groups are dying out

7 years are coming for a lot of those groups.

3 Months ago for Mamamoo

Weki Meki, yes, their 7 years are up on August 2024.

From the list above, Busters and Pritti-G are weird cases, as the original line up debuted in Gen 3, but the revamped group and line up debuted in Gen 4. Alice also revamped, but did not change lineups.

Alice, all members are the same as it was just a name rebrand.

I'd wait for official news regarding WJSN. When rumors started running wild Starship did make a post telling people to look forward to WJSN activities in 2023.

Most likely some members are not going to renew but the group will continue without them. Bona at least seems unlikely to renew.

Besides Dreamcatcher and Twice, have any other third gen GG's actually confirmed renewal?

Hopefully not WJSN. That would be heartbreaking.

I don't get why it would be surprising since in the entire history of GG only two groups ever had renewed with all of its members with the same company - Twice and Mamamoo...

the default position for GG is disbandment - any groups that renewals is breaking precedent...

I'm not a fan of either, but if we look at this from their perspective I have some thoughts:

If I was in Momoland, I wouldn't be able to find a single reason to re-sign a contract. MLD squandered the potential they had with Bboom Bboom by releasing Baam which let's be real was essentially a repackaged song. That was the worst business strategy I've ever seen; it made Momoland look like one trick ponies.

Now on WJSN, I think if I was in the same position as them I'd only resign my contract if I had already had acting roles organised with Starship's management or if every other member resigned their contract. If neither of those things happen then I would leave.

and now that makes three of them

but it still doesn't change the fact that history has shown us that GG rarely renew with the same company especially all the members together and thus disbandment is the norm albeit sad for the fans

Also Red Velvet seemingly renewed their contracts as well, as they debuted 8 years ago.

But its not like wjsn does hurt them. They have a solid fandom and are profitable. Disband them would only give Starship bad publicity and Made them loose some additional income. I see no reason to believe those rumors.

RV technically hasn't renewed yet since I'm of the understanding that they might have one of the old 10 year contracts and nothing was ever released (to the public) on their 7th year anniversary...I could be wrong though...

Mamamoo has an * since technically Wheein did stick with RBW for group activities - it's her solo activities that she's with a separate company for (at least it's what citron-icy told me erons ago lol)

Yes each member have two contract. One as soloist and one as group

All members renewed as group with RBW and Solar, Moonbyul & Hwasa renewed as soloist with RBW, and Wheein with The L1ve. Hwasa will have to renew her soloist contract this year.

Many companies would be happy, yes it would be a great success for them, if they had won Queendom 2 with WJSN and had sold almost 200 thousand albums with Sequence. That's not a little!

With MonstaX, WJSN and Cravity, Starship have three groups that are doing well and with IVE a mega top group. The company should stick to this and build on it!
