The Big X is more about brand recognition than about sales

The Big X is more about brand recognition than about sales
yep, this is true.
but sales could lead into having a brand recognition.. -

after bp comeback this will change

if that #4 would be Kakao then it would make sense
I kind of don't get placing HYBE at #1 but then being not consistent and ranking Starship at #4
so it's either about full companies or subsidiaries?
because obviously groups like Seventeen, fromis_9, and Le Sserafim as well as Enhypen are groups from subsidiaries of HYBE

Starship is a subsidiary label under which company? Kakao?

Starship is a subsidiary label under which company? Kakao?
yap here are more details:
Kakao EntertainmentKakao Entertainment (카카오엔터테인먼트) is a South Korean entertainment company. It was originally founded as Podotree (포도트리는) in 2010 as a content business company…kpop.fandom.com- IST Entertainment (formerly Play M)

According to Circle Chart, these are the "Top 5 Best Selling K-pop Companies" in the first half of 2022:
1. HYBE
2. SM
3. JYP
4. Starship
5. YG
What do you guys think?
source1. What big Girl group do they have?
ok, they do have the bigest boy group in the world, so that alone puts them in the conversation to be at the top, but if BTS disbands tomorrow, would HYBE still be a top 3 company?
the other big 3, can replace their big acts, we do not know yet if HYBE will be able to replace BTS when the time comes.
2. Yes.
3 Yes
4. Starship is part of Kakao Entertainment, so lets replace Starship with Kakao M (music division of KaKao).
Kakao M has a lot of subsidiaries, Not only Starship with IVE, but EDAM entertainment that has this little Solo artost called IU, perhaps people have heard of her. Then they have IST, they hold Apink, Weekly, Victon and the boys.
The problem with Kakao M is that they do not have any big Boy group or male Solo artist.
If the list was Biggest labels for Female acts, then yes Kakao M deserves to be on the list (IU alone puts them there), but they need bigger male acts.
5. yes
So in closing, I would say big 4, but HYBE only makes it there thanks to BTS being such a large global group.
Edit: I did not talk about the order, I just talked about if the companies belong in the top 5.
The order, I would say.
1. SM
2. HYBE
3. YG
4. JPY
And that depends on what metric you use.
-
ah.. is that so? would you like to elaborate more about YG main business

Ah.. yes. But would HYBE subsidiaries group helps?
also yeah, seems like SM still holding it's place because they still had their nct and aespa which could be considered as one of the tops?
JYP also had stray kids and the ggs
and YG is already preparing their next gg... -
-
-
It could make sense if it is for 2022 only.
But even then, YG boy groups I am sure outsell any boy group that Kakao M has under any of their sub-labels.

you can ask Blue2012 for more he knows more about this than me lol
-
Ah... so the black label is under YG... i see
-
One label that I left out of Kakao M is 'High up entertainment'.
According to this, they were acquired by Kakao M in 2021.
High Up EntertainmentHigh Up Entertainment (하이업엔터테인먼트), also simply known as High Up, is a South Korean entertainment agency founded by producer duo Black Eyed Pilseung, in…kpop.fandom.comWhile High up only has StayC as an act under the label, High up is a label started by Black Eyed Pilseung, they do make a lot of money as producers.

I agree album sales don't reflect if a company is a part of the Big entertainment companies.
But being that YG subsidiary, YGPlus, is probably the biggest music distributor in SK reflects their influence as many labels use them. If you look up and down the Gaon Chart YGPlus is everywhere.
Revenue is also a good gauge.
2021:
YG - $271.5 million
JYP - $148 million
Starship - $60 million
-
But they do.
Is only because Starship is an better known brand in music than Kakao M.
For HYBE, thanks to BTS, everyone knows the top corporation brand over the subsidiaries.
For Example.
IVE is under Starship who is under Kakao M
Le Sserafim is under Source music who is under HYBE
But when people talk about the groups, everyone knows IVE = starship, but most people think Le Sserafim = HYBE.
I guess to your point, is that most people know that Source is under HYBE, while not many people know that Starship is under Kakao M.

If you go by music distributors, then Kakao is the biggest (they own Melon).
CJ E&M may be the second biggest.
At least digitally.

Yeah, I already saw another user mention Kakao M and then I remembered it existed but I didn't bother to edit my comment because the fact that I even forgot a Kakao M already existed only added to my point that a rebrand is necessary. Kakao M still doesn't promote their subsidiaries the way HYBE does, they don't have that "family" image. Most people wouldn't even know that IU or The Boyz or StayC are all apart of the same major company as IVE. Meanwhile, HYBE is about to put out a show with SVT, Fromis9, Lesserafim, TXT, Enhypen, and the remaining Nu'est members hanging out together. Kakao can do better to build their brand instead of worrying about buying out SM.

It might also because "becoming a family" isn't Kakao intention? They just want to purely owning the business.
And for the family thing, looks like starship has their own family things called "Starship Planet"(?) -
It is weird to include both HYBE and Starship.
It should be either HYBE and Kakao OR BigHit and Starship.
In any case, it is good to start with a definition of what defines "Big".
IMO, an agency which is not a subsidiary, which has launched top tier groups, both BG and GG, at least for 2 generations.
Merely money, acquisition etc. are not enough.
That way, it would still only by Big 3.
HYBE-BigHit has one superhit BG and one upcoming BG, another via a subsidiary. But no GG built in-house yet, Glam was a disaster and LSF is too recent to say anything or the Adora group to come.
Kakao, CJE&M have built nothing inhouse, all their acts are all acquisitions and subsidiary labels.
-
-
-
Except that Kakao-Kakao M does not lack money, heck they are in the run to acquire SM.
They are corporate behemoth in S.Korea, their competition is Naver and not K-pop companies, even one as large as HYBE. Probably the only thing Kakao would consider is WeVerse,
if Hybe is willing to sell Weverse to Kakao, then maybe they may sell Starship or even IU herself to HYBE.
-
lol "ive" been posting about this for months and got clowned on here.
Kakao is bigger than all the other labels combined. It most definitely should be counted as part of the true Big 5 of Kpop.
Boyz
Monsta X
Is there a better lineup in Kpop right now? They have the biggest digimon in Korean history, two of the biggest GGs out there right now, veteran 3rd gen groups, and up and coming 4h gen BG. Under Kakao, they're gonna get as much promo opportunities as they could ever want. And they aint gonna be hurting for resources just look at Ive's dorms ffs.
-
-
-
So, if there are a company that could had a big impact on the entire industry than that company could be included?
-
Hybe has been buying mostly companies with issues.
Source Music was practically bankrupt when Hybe bough them.
