Soyeon's English rap isn't that bad in Tomboy I've heard worse English rap from American rappers
-
-
Nah it's real bad.
-
Disagree
-
Doesnt make it any better. I dont listen to western music that much
-
Nope it was embarassing and by far the worst part of the song
-
-
She should just rap in Korean if her writing and flow is better in that language
-
the lyrics of the whole song are soooooo cringe...I had to turn em off
-
It's okay... Not my favorite, but I'm not that bothered when I listen to it.
-
I really dislike the rap part, but Tomboy is a great song apart from that

Most Kpop rap lyrics are cringe not just Soyeon's english rap
-

I didnt say the rest of kpop had good lyrics tho so.... this changes nothing lol
-
-
tbh the lyrics of the song as a whole are just not it.. honestly I don't think the song is bad but I can't listen to it because of the cringy english.. I just wish kpop companies would hire fluent english speakers to vet songs before they release them lol
-
The truth of the matter is that Soyeon cannot write bars in English. The rap would've been fine in Korean! If English is not her expertise that is fine, but girl! That rap was messy and embarassing! Tik tok? JESUS...
She should just rap in Korean if her writing and flow is better in that language
I was just thinking about this today. Korean with a few English words mixed in would have been more it.

what was her goal debuting the group with an English rap? Her Lion rap is still flawless. was she trying to branch out?
-
It kind of makes me think of times when I have written some poems that are not meant to be taken seriously.
I found it a bit weird, but I kind of don't mind them.

That's how she normally does it AFAIK. All of her title track raps that i can remember are like 90 percent Korean. She really went out of the box to write in English this time, plus she has bad English pronunciation (literally her only flaw). I think maybe she felt like she had to appeal to her international fans and audience, maybe she was worried that Korea would shut them out after the scandal.
But frankly none of it matters. Her bad English lyrics, her bad pronunciation, none of that matters because all she has to do is point towards the scoreboard. She literally has the biggest Kpop hit since Next Level and has outcharted IU, Taeyeon and Red Velvet.

I'm thumbs upping your last sentence.
Kpop companies have countless thousands of English speaking exchange students in Seoul right now, just hire them as interns, they would all jump at the chance to edit lyrics for their fave Kpop groups.
I've said this before as well - JUST EMAIL ME AND I WILL DO IT FOR FREE, I KNOW YOU KPOP EXECS ARE READING THIS. FFS, I got a 700 for the English part of my SATs and i can understand Korean at a kindergarten level.
-
-
Nah it's worst part of the song
Cigarettes, whiskey and bond babi dou
Lol
-
The lyrics would be fine if they only cared about the Korean audience. I bet Koreans are just as bad with English as her and are even impressed with the inclusion of it. Unfortunately, the English lyrics have hurt her reputation with international listeners. The lack of quality control really blows my mind.
I don't know if it's right to say she should have stuck with all Korean lyrics since the song is a hit. Although, she sure did expose her biggest songwriting and rapping weakness.

LOL i know there are some lyrics that would be such an easy fix too.. Like in Rollin' by Brave Girls, they have that one part that goes "I wanna you", literally just change it to "I want you" and sing it a bit differently so it fits the tempo of the song.
-
why u lying 💀
-
-
I've seen worse
-
the rap is really bad. it ruined the song for me
-
it was bad
-
It truly didn't bother me, good English rap and lyric (so many cringe lyrics in kpop songs like Soyeon not the only one) are very rare and often only happen because the rapper is American or fluent in English (even more rare). I chose to listen to kpop so I'm never listening to a song and expecting to hear even fluent level rapping.
-
She destroyed the whole song for me. Like obviously it would have been much better in Korean.
-
-
i agree. Not all rap is meant to be deep or meaningful. Sometimes im just in the mood to hear something catchy 💁
-
It's better than GUCCI GANG GUCCI GANG GUCCI GANG GUCCI GANG GUCCI GANG
-
-
-
nope. The best way i can describe her rap is tryhard.
-
It's great, don't be so jelly.
-

"Gucci Gang" is a masterpiece and if you disagree, then you don't understand art. LOL just kidding.
-
True, but the song really is good.
As I've said before, it reminds be of Garbage
-

I shall willingly not understand the so called art
And that isn't even the worse. I'll probably get cancelled for saying too much but like 95% of the rap music I hear on the radio these days just make absolute no sense, rapping about money/sex/drugs add in some random vulgar words here and there boom top the charts.
And they basically make a living just by beefing with other rappers like if they aren't beefing and rapping and trashing each other they are going to lose their career because they don't have anyone to rap about
Ok said too much bye don't cancel me
