Just look at the amount Of effort that they put towards aespa and red velvet. It’s evident that they never were trying to set them up to become the representative girl groups. But they still did, and then only then did sm pay a bit of attention to them. They did extremely well with the resources they were given. Breaking sm expectations time and time again, reaching the top 3 girl group spot. And even after a close to 2 years group hiatus , they are still relevant to both Koreans and living rent free in your mind. Still charting within the top ten, you wish your faves had the longevity and relevance and talent that red velvet has. Take several seats.

Their concept was the problem tbh and bad timing. I feel like big 3 groups who debut the earliest suffer the most. By the time they pick up the steam, TWICE and BP was already dominating. Finishing 3rd place still isn’t bad tho.

Red Velvet is not a shame to SM and they never will be.

Their concept is different and SM pushed their Velvet concept more as rookies which is superior music but most Kpop fans like loud upbeat music more than the slow, mature music.

Red Velvet have some achievements that even Snsd doesn't so they are special in their own way.

It`s already impressive to have 3/4 top gen ggs u can`t just expect that every gen SM gg is gonna be number 1

RV did amazing just cuz they didn`t have the same peak doesn`t mean they aren`t huge.. and btw curently at least on charts RV is doing better then TW so longterm RV could still be the final winner of their gen watch out for their 3rd full album this december (i`m manifetsing)

This is a very uninformed take.

People were fully expecting RV to be the top GG of their generation before Twice blew up with Cheer Up, and before Pink Punk/BPink debuted, which many were wondering if it would even happen.

Likewise it's too early to say Aespa will be the top 1 for their entire generation, although they are leading now like how RV was leading then
