Some of the things said by the Korean trainees on gp999 didn't sit right with me.

So I was watching gp999 and... Not appreciating the low-key nationalist shading going on here.

    💞 💞

  • It’s obvious korean bias. If a C trainee said this about the K group they would be demonizing her

They’ll gloss over what k-trainees say and they know the C trainees are better punching bags because they don’t have as many fans in the west

  • Nationalism isn't taboo or politically incorrect in East Asia. It's pretty much the norm. To us, it's very inappropriate and insulting, but to them, they're much more open about this kind of thing.

  • I would say that's one of those things those three nations have the same...

Something bad happen one blame another saying they hate them. But other time they think they are the best and other nations are lower...

As someone who's from Europe it's really stupid to see.

One of the stupidest things Koreans are commenting is:

"These days I hate Chinese even more than Japanese.

Etc. And they post those comments straight on theqoo or pann and those comments get like +500 or +1000 likes...

  • i don't see it

and i think some of them even make a good point , especially the one saying if some of the trainees were in the kgroup they would be judge harder than c-trainees and J-trainees

and Produce 48 was a good example of this, i remember Sakura audition on Produce was C or B tier at best but not A

meanwhile some Koreans who did a much better performance for example Sihyeon who did a perfect performance in vocal and dancing got a B

proving that because most of the judges are koreans in this show and know how hard Ktrainees are train, they tend to be much more harsh on them

  • Considering a mixture of geopolitical tensions and history Koreans as an ethnicity have no reason to like Chinese or Japanese people if anything Mnet is smart for utilizing this in an idol survival show of all things for drama reasons it's like expecting Serbs to not look down on Croats or vice versa or the complicated feelings between Greeks and Turks, or Indians and Pakistanis.

Edited once, last by Cosmicrhythm878: Accidently left at just the countries names instead of ethnic names for India-Pakistan example I apologize if I offended anyone by accident ().

  • Nationalism isn't taboo or politically incorrect in East Asia. It's pretty much the norm. To us, it's very inappropriate and insulting, but to them, they're much more open about this kind of thing.

To me it's ridiculous that it is to some extent taboo in the West, and especially America.

We could actually do with some more nationalism if you ask me.

My generation tends to be cynically critical of the U.S. to an almost defeatist degree.

    You can have too much.

You can also have too little.

Such that their is no overaching sense of a national identity or shared feeling or pride.

  • I don’t see much of a problem with it. If this was a Japanese or Chinese survival show for jpop and cpop, the same things would most likely be said. Neither J or C group would want to lose to the foreign group. All three east asian countries are prideful and nationalistic. It’s just that a certain country named Japan took that ideology and mindset to a whole new level during WW2, especially after coming in contact with the west, hence why Korea, China, and other asian countries hate the rising sun flag or when Japan does want to get nationalistic (ex: spending money to improve their military, evicting their war crime history out of children and teen textbooks) because it usually doesn’t mean anything good in terms of politics of course.

  • Idk about other comments but I wouldn't agree with the last girl. Ezaki Hikaru gave the right expression and stage presence. Their dance was on point and they also left a great impact.

Hikaru definitely knows difference b/w the right expression vs a blank stare. Like miss gurl you wanna say she deserves 5th rank lmao?

Anyways that's just my opinion and I shall respect hers too but as a person who was never a nationalist and doesn't believe in nationalism, her comment if she was in a K group then her rank would be 5th doesn't sit well with me. But it's time for me to understand nationalism too.
