Idk women seem to dominates romance novels and that includes stuff like Fifty Shades of Grey, Twilight and Jane Eyre and the male characters who are the love interests in that aren't exactly good male role models.

So basically,they are written in order to cater to women's tastes and that's why I said it's a good thing, a compliment, if someone says stuff like "male characters written by women vibes".
It usually refers to men who are appealing to women first and foremost. Men in kdrama, Mr Darcy or Edward Cullen, Leonardo Di Caprio in Titanic. These men who don't bother with trying to appeal to a male audience, because basically no one in their audience is male anyway.

Mmmh that's basically a difference between 'What a man thinks is attractive in a man' VS 'What a woman thinks is attractive in a man'. Obviously if you are man, writing for a male audience, your character will be written accordingly. If you're a woman wiring for a female audience, your writing will be completely different.
It's similar to the male/female gaze in movies really.
