Album sales took a big blow after chinese fans decided to not contribute anymore

It was a ballad. Ballads don't do well as of recently

As for the lower album sales, honestly RBW fucked up big time and I don’t see the support the got from China post-Queendom coming back anytime soon but their sales are still respectable so they’ll be fine.

If you think about it. I think the best thing would've been a long hiatus to wait until chinese fans forget about it. But I guess that won't happen now lol

It's a ballad during summer and Where Are We Now originally wasn't meant to be promoted, it was supposed to be a surprise for their concert. The sales were expected to dip considering the China issue and it was right after Wheein's comeback. We don't have money lol
I don't think it's the end at all but RBW needs to get their shit together with the promotions. They're so comfortable riding Mamamoo's status, they're not doing much anymore. Even Purple Kiss gets better management now.

That's one of the dumbest moves by a korean company I've ever seen do they want to be seen as national traitors? Are they clueless to how this can affect group rep?

Heh, you actually created a thread about Mamamoo for once, instead of (shady 
) threads about other groups.
It's a ballad, those are hit-or-miss when done by idols and idol groups when it comes to digital charting.
It's true that, excl Hwasa, Mamamoo and the individual members' comebacks haven't been doing well on digital charts lately.
But like said, a ballad isn't a true measure, we'll see how Mamamoo will do when they come back with a non-ballad and more upbeat song.
As for their album sales for their recent comeback, those are not bad (certainly compared to their digital charting), but they are kinda disappointing in an era where even sub-units and solo debuts of the members of K-pop groups can easily surpass 100k sales (eg. Rose, Seulgi-Irene, Wendy), and where album sales seem to have doubled and tripled all across the board.
The Chinese matter hasn't helped Mamamoo in this regard.
Unless I'm mistaken, none of the Mamamoo members surpassed 100k in sales.
Solar had 84k sales (for Solar Emotion), Moonbyul had 77k (for Dark Side of the Moon), WheeIn had 72k (for Redd), Hwasa had 66k (with Maria).
At least, those are the Gaon numbers.
Still not bad, but not above 100k.
WheeIn had 1 hit of her own, in 2019 with Goodbye, but her recent comeback 'Water Color' last month didn't peak higher than #70 in Gaon.

I remember the last cb surpassing 100k on hanteo, so I expected them to be a sure top 3/4 gg due to that, but now with the chinese fans not supporting their latest album and their song being in and out of melon top 100, I think it's the end for their growth.
Not that they will flop or anything, Hwasa is probably one of the most known idols atm, but just like Gfriend, they reached their peak already and I don't see them getting any bigger.
And I know they all renewed but I also think this is kinda like an "hiatus" album. Like exo or SNSD, we arent going to see them as group much, they seem to want to focus on their solo careers...

But even if it didn't, it's imo 1 of the best songs of Mamamoo, and I'm glad that they've released it. It's definitely made its way into my 2021 playlist.

agree, it's one of their best songs and they sound so amazing. I'll check later on when summer's over, because I don't feel like listening to it now, but I'll add to my playlist later

I'm not so sure whether the OG 3rd gen ggs should already be written off: BP's and TWICE's sales per album are still increasing, and while Red Velvet are still on hiatus, Seulgi&Irene's and Wendy's individual album sales with 230k and 150k+ easily equal and surpass the highest album sales of the full group 2 years ago and also top most of the other girl groups' album sales.
For that matter, even a lot of midtier ggs are doing great, where before most of them couldn't even pass the 100k sales per album, now many of them have 100-150k+ sales.
But yeah, 7 year contract of 3rd gen groups are gradually expiring 1 by 1, so we have to be prepared to see more and more 3rd gen groups disband or have members leaving
