What does a boygroup need to get a hit in Korea?

be a girl group
-
Oh, if I knew I would be rich

Have both genders on your side. Alot of men don't listen to KPOP boy groups for whatever reason(not all of them, but alot of them)
mainly due to fragile masculinityBigBang had this 'cool' factor to them which attracted both males and females. Actually before Treasure, every YG boy group had at least 1 hit because of YG boy groups and the aforementioned cool factor. It wasn't seen as 'uncool' or 'not trendy' to listen to them.
That or only release ballads. Korea loves ballads. See: Missing You and like every SG Wannabe song on the charts right now.

Then be BTS

Have a decently sized fandom first. I’m not saying you need to have a national hit. But if you release a good pop song and actually have a fandom you’ll have medium/semi hits like tempo/love shot/ko ko bop/call me baby etc which in today’s digitals index terms that would be around 500mil or more digital points.
There are two reasons as far as I can see why BGs don’t chart any more : they don’t have Korean fandoms or their songs are so abysmally bad not even their fans listen to it.

Actually u sum it up pretty well
Basically u need to appeal to the boys as well, not only girls. That's why Big Bang did well. Now BTS is also a IT group to follow as they're korean pride.
Treasure is the first YG group that i think focus more on a hardcore fanbase than anything. They dont have the public appeal (first being a big group, second songs are not GP friendly). If they went with going crazy, might have changed the tone
-
But TXT have catchy and friendly songs and no one in Korea is paying attention
-
-
-
For example last year Seventeen dropped left&right which in my opinion is very friendly and catchy yet it didn’t perform well, so I think sometimes stuff are meant to be and being well known by gp is important.
-
Boy groups should release gp friendly songs or less experimental songs that aren’t difficult to listen to
And also have some presence or promo by someone famous covering their song, so that it goes viral
That can help

That trend of massive EDM needs to stop.

Some boygroups do so and still don’t chart.

They don’t have presence

Have your BG name start with B

I wanted to answer that! Lol
Like mother, like daughter.

Be BTS.
Exactly 👍

This is very accurate. Looking at jyp bgs, both 2pm and 2am were the most successful in Korea. 2pm with their manly image and being the ideal type of every female celeb, appealed to men who wanted to be like them. 2am with their ballads appealed to everyone.
BEAST were also one of the bgs with most success in Korea and they had vibes similar to Bigbang/manly members like 2pm/ballad singers like 2am
-
isn't about music style or even promotions. I know so many bgs that release public friendly songs and have the members going to every variety show, doing tiktok challenges with Jessi or Yoo Jaesuk, members getting big as actors, etc yet they don't chart at all.
Luck and right timing is also important, and they have to gain the public's trust with their music. Pentagon had a chance with Shine and Hui being kinda relevant/liked in Korea, yet many things went wrong with them
-
They have the biggest domestic fanbase of any new gen boy group, and they gain more fans every day.

Dps

To have a cool/masculine image, really good/catchy songs and be extremely popular overseas, those are the requirements.
As of now, boy groups have a bad reputation because their music has suffered a massive drop in quality during the last few years (that can be said for kpop as a whole tho) and straight guys don't want to associate themselves with 'effeminate' idols that are known for doing cheesy fanservice in order to please their fangirls.

The day I know the reason and taste of korean gp, expect me to write a long email to bighit explaining it.
Runaway was a perfect song to for gp yet somehow it didn't chart well. Blue hour had the vibes of gp friendly track. Still nothing happened.
I dunno if it's related to music or visibility.
Atleast BTS can chart well so one less worry.
Imo Some of the 2nd gen bg had worse music but they did better.
Also variety shows and lack of tv audience is definitely affecting the 4th gen bgs. During 2nd gen ppl used to know the names of members in the group ,out of big 3 groups too. Infinite, beast, 2pm, teen top every group has members known to gp through variety shows and it definitely made them checkout their music. Varieties these days are not that good and no one really watches them so there goes the visibility.
-
- Consistently good music (that the GP like, not by your personal taste) and a bit of luck.
- Make a big enough impact
- Charming characteristics that make you stan out in a sea of other groups (be it unique voices, rap or dance)
-
A good song

Don’t get me wrong, i also like TxT’s discography, but that doesn’t change the fact that their concepts and styling tends to be towards young girls.
I just think at times they overindulge like with Blue Hour (diving through clouds and dancing in front of a carousel), that is obvious they aren’t trying to create a male audience.
