Which girl group is the most underrated?

What even...

Without longevity people will always forget your monetary success. That’s how it’s always been.

Most of these groups aren't what come to my mind when I think of "underrated" groups.

They had great success at the peak, have iconic songs and made bank. K-pop fans not recognizing their impact at their time in a forum don't change reality.

So it's nice to finally rant about something positive.

And that something is Oh My Girl.

Their discography is unbelievable tbh. I thought Twice's cutesy catalogue was unrivalled but then i got into Izone bsides a few years back and now recently Oh My Girl.

And i didnt even list other songs i personally didnt like as much that ended up to be national hits like Dolphin and Dun Dun Dance.

They are always forgotten about in 2nd gen convos outside of WonSoKa and 2ne1, Fx etc, but at one point they were challenging for the top against SNSD before their scandal.

Seriously underrated, and even for here, I rarely see anyone talk about them...

A lot of talent with songs... that don't really show each member's talent off the best..

all groups are rated exactly where they are rated - if they were more popular/prettier/had better songs etc etc then they'd be rated higher but since they aren't they are rated exactly where they should be rated

For me it’s Orange Caramel. Did you know they never got a single music show win? Despite releasing so many bops, being cultural icons, having countless other groups perform their songs at award shows etc, setting the formula for the quirky sub-unit.

Can you believe Catallena never won a music show?

The idea that all groups are perfectly rated based on the quality of their discography is utter nonsense to me (please correct me if I am misrepresenting your stance).

I would point straight to indie kpop artists like Hanhee who is realising some of the best music this year but has a fraction of the following of larger groups, and while you could make the argument for niche music garnering niche followings, you have example like Brave Girls Rollin’ which was released twice, at one point being a commercial flop, and then suddenly going viral, so at which point was it correctly rated? Or even an example like Van Gogh, when was Starry Night correctly rated, while he was alive or after he died?

I know you were teasing me but you wanted my opinion on something so here it is lol

my stance isn't on the quality of one's discography since that rating is subjective

all music whether it's "good" or "bad" is subjective

the only measure is the successfulness of a group since there are objective measures to qualify that

I don't know Hanhee since I've never heard his or her music

I didn't like Rollin' from BG but I know I'm pretty much in the minority

Starry Night is a masterpiece but I personally prefer the doodle that my then 5 year old son did over it

Thus by that metric you cannot definitively state that Starry Night is an objectively better art piece than my kid's doodle - what you can state is that to a greater number of people they consider it better than my kid's doodle which again comes back to popularity

lots of people work hard and don't achieve jack - there could be the nuguest of groups or soloists busting their ass off and still not achieve anything resembling the groups you mentioned in your list (not to even to mention the top groups) but does that mean they are "more deserving" or that they are underrated? my answer would still be no they are rated exactly where they should be rated since it's the industry/market that dictates that

Talent isn't enough in this industry. MAMAMOO and other artists like them, are actually lucky they had a chance to debut, most Kpop agencies said no, because of their visuals. I too agree

Most people work hard in this industry, but there are levels to it. For example. BIG4 groups already have millions of followers before debut, not to mention big brand deals and so on. Even if they work hard, there's a HUGE difference between their hard work and someone who's under a small agency who have to do 100s of performance every year to achieve their smallest goal. It's not really about who deserve it more, this is about why someone can be really popular and why someone can't be, even tho in some cases they're much more talented. I agree

In short: it's about money. This is why Kpop agencies don't really debut Idols from average or poor families. It's much easier and cheaper to debut rich kids. This new trend limits the chances of real talents even more. no disagreement from me

And this is why this statement is wrong, because they're rated by an outdated standard and groups like MAMAMOO, SISTAR etc, achieved success by themselves, basically. but again who is the ones doing the rating - me and you and every other kpop and non kpop fan right? it's the fans and people that contribute $$$ and advertisers (aka the market) that determines what is popular and what is "more appreciated" and thus more "rated" compared to other idols who aren't as appreciated or rated

yes we all know the no. 1 criteria for most idols is how they look and that "skill" is 1000% more important than performing talent but that's literally how most of the entertainment industry works around the world. Hell that factor is probably even more important in life as pretty people have pretty advantage

If you're argument is that that standard or the system that fosters that standard is wrong and more people should be appreciating talent - I don't necessarily disagree but that's the system we have in place - that's the metric/criteria by which most people "appreciate" their favs and if your aim is to change the status quo - kudos to you my friend - Good luck
