Anyway I heard it’s a common thing in Korea for couples to break up when the guy joins the military.
But I find it weird to announce a break up when none of them made a public statement about their relationship status.

I've once seen an street interview with Koreans and they've shared a stories about it, that many couples break up just before men entering military. It's kind of a sad thing.

I mean it's an "industry insider" ... which could be my cousin's best friend's auntie's hairdresser-turned-stylist to the stars.
They've never confirmed it, beyond being spotted together and that's the only way we knew. So why would the hell would they blab about it now? And to whom? Cause all their friends seem pretty good at keeping it under wraps before. Unless they've made a "new" friend who likes to "tell all". They escaped those types for so long only to be "caught" at the last moment before being parted...

Yeah it’s sad, but I can also understand in a way.
You won’t be able to see each other that often for almost 2 years. Both will be busy with day to day life that you might drift away from each other slowly.
Also not wanting to lock down someone for 2 years if you’re not even sure if this might last forever.
I think it’s easier for couples who already got married.
