Will any other 4th gen group be able to catch up to NewJeans internationally?

Arent most groups lucky to even get 2 million streams on that platform? I'm not sure that Ive, LSRFM, Idle, etc have even managed to 2 million in one day, of course i dont follow Spotify much so someone else might know.

In terms of GP appeal they are the number 1 group right now in K-pop, regardless of being 4th gen or a girl group.

Even before the drama, I never considered Fifty Fifty a serious contender. People clearly obsessed over the song more than any of the group members--they needed to prove they could follow up one of the biggest hit songs in K-Pop history, and their company failed them.

NewJeans have been on the most historically dominant stretch to start a career in K-Pop ever, and it's not even remotely close.

They have set the bar so impossibly high honestly.

newjeans have been slaying since debut. i don’t remember in my entire six years of kpop, anyone having such a massive debut and releasing hits after hits (not to jinx it or anything). baemon have a high chance considering them being blackpinks sister group and debuting a month after bps contract renewal which could go either way. currently, ive can challenge them in korea for sure but i doubt they’d ever have such a major international impact. the current gen in kpop is so oversaturated. heavily promoted groups are flopping (nmixx) and then random groups pop up with the biggest hit ever (fifty fifty). Kind of refreshing and extremely unpredictable. It could be years till we crown the one top of this gen. It was easier to do so with bts/blackpink because they out dominated across all metrics. right now it’s just so divided between so many groups. one has great sales (aespa), the other has great korean charting (ive), another with the western numbers (newjeans), completely different one with YouTube records (nmixx, gidle)… there’s just no clear winner

Nah. NewJeans is pretty blatantly the one top right now.

They have the ultimate combination of every factor you just listed--charting, sales, international, domestic, and no girl group is even in their stratosphere right now.

NewJeans has spent their entire career in the Melon top 10. Just think about that for a bit.

Yeah if another group does more than them on YouTube without ads it’s possible to compete for their spot. NJ Spotify numbers are impressive but they still have room to grow on YouTube.

consistency and speed, all that NJ have achieved, they’ve achieved in under a year, so YG will have to move fast to keep comparisons interesting

well honestly it looks like it. but the thing is, in this gen, there are multiple top grps so i can still see other ggs exploding too. and especially since we ourselves are seeing how the hype around itzy died down after more and more ggs debuted. its honestly so unpredictable but with newjeans great marketing, they def are doing well and will continue to do so.

I see NewJeans extending their global dominance into 5th gen as long as MHJ prioritizes them (it will be a while til ADOR bg).

But I can see one of the global girl group collaborations (HYBE x Geffen, JYP x Republic, SM?) claiming the top spot eventually. They'll have 2 advantages internationally (esp. the west): a) global partners have skin in the game and will be pushing them hard, and b) even if another group rates higher among int'l K-pop fans, these groups by nature are in position to reach a wider audience in the general public. Imagine Fifty Fifty but also having a Kpop-style fanbase, whether they be Kpop fans or pop fans that are introduced to fandom culture.

Baemon I mentally categorize as BP 2.0. I can see them doing well in the west, dominate in SE Asia, Japan, and maybe China will take them over the top globally if the market opens up (Ahyeon ain't playing with her Chinese language studies).

Nmixx YouTube numbers are thanks to ads. Same as G Idle. NewJeans is the group with highest views (without ads) and they are at least the same level as Ive with korean charting

About album sales, I believe is more a matter of waiting their next comeback and see if their sales are growing fast or not

I always thought LSRF have a lot of international appeal. (They are already the top 4th gen in Japan) and Baemon.

Internationally they are unbeatable at the moment. Sales wise, they are still behind I'd say Aespa? Korean charting, they have tight competition from Ive, Idle etc. Still have room to grow as they are still so young.

Who knows ? BTS disrupted the game among the Big3 company so you never know but I doubt it. The music and the branding should be as universally appealing as NewJeans’. Good luck with that.

but longevity, they surpass everyone

NJ 2023 sales:

2023: 2,229,659 copies sold (OMG is nearly 1,6M and their debut album has nearly doubled in 2023 1,4M)

Aespa 2023 sales:

I'm not sure how popular they are internationally how can that be measured accurately? besides the spotify thing but to answer your question baemon Yg's music for girl groups appeal more internationally but then again they are gonna be 5th gen
