They did make a lot of money prior to enlistment. Not more money than BTS/BP but definitely more money than rest of kpop that’s for sure. Certainly more than anyone at SM/JYP/YG. I don’t think NCT/17/twice etc made more than EXO up to 2018/19. Bigger tours. Bigger album sales. Endorsements. Both group and solo. They had it all.

As of 2021, it was $5.1B. But we will never know the exact wealth of BTS members but deducing that they make the most money EVER as a group from SK, anyone putting them anywhere but #1 is either biased or delusional. Even the FREE Yet To Come in Cinemas that every ARMY already viewed for FREE TWICE still generated $40M and they added dates until the end of 02/12/23.

EXO are definitely up there with the richest idols, no doubt, but BTS are 100% on top, and probably with a pretty sizeable gap. I feel like people don't realise just how much money their tours and merch sales etc made in the last few years. Their advertising fee was the highest in the industry, their album sales index alone doubles that of any other group.

Thanks for digging it up lol I stopped paying attention to TVXQ/most SM acts after 2015 so I was not aware they made $2B in 2018. This is just proving this list even more inaccurate. They should be at #2.

BTS is a whole brand far beyond SM, JYP & YG

Another thread made me inspired to make this, but in terms of revenue and profitability this is true. BTS actually outgrossed SM, JYP & YG in yearly revenue. It's beyond my imagination what a feat this is.

In their 2020 yearly report they generated;

SM - 579 billion won
JYP - 144 billion won
YG - 255 billion won

BTS (group) - 674 billion won

Everyone was struggling with pandemic and no live concerts and BTS still proved us wrong.

Just in 2022 alone, according to HYBE, BTS is expected to contribute 60-65% of their whole earnings which is like 1,025 trillion won - 1,105 triilion won. That's more than SM's whole earnings and more than YG + JYP's revenue combined. In one whole year alone, with no world tour and only 1 compilation album.

BTS is far above these groups esp in earnings. One whole year or 2 years of BTS could be a decade earnings of Bigbang or TVXQ. Not even EXO.

Once you reached their level of success & popularity internationally and constantly printing big money, it's not shocking to earn that much in short time only. Think of it, BTS have sold the most albums with an estimated album units of 130M. Whilst, they did not have the luck to tour as much as Bigbang or TVXQ in they prime years due to covid and military, they still made so much from other revenue streams like merch, content, IP, high paying brand endorsements and etc.

It actually is kinda amazing that they didn't have to go on grueling sched of touring just to make a lot of money. This year alone, they are estimated to bring in atleast 500B won with hiatus and most of their earnings are only coming from indirect revenue streams and back catalogs. That's how powerful they are.

Apart from album sales and touring which EXO did really well, they Completely ignore how valuable EXO members are individually. Sure not all EXO members do equally as well but Baekhyun himself sells as much as a WHOLE group. And we have Kai with his global endorsements. And then D.O with MULTIPLE hit dramas and movies. Not mention how much merch Chanyeol Sehun Baekhyun sell from bubble to individual item sales. Since I’m not following Bigbang closely enough I won’t mention them so I’m not sure if they have multiple ppl this valuable as well. But TVXQ is certainly are not more valuable than EXO. Physically, digitally, and individual member wise EXO are without a doubt bigger.

I guess “other avenues” exists for everyone else but will be ignored when it comes to EXO.

All I can think of is that BTS only blew up internationaly after 2017 and that the members, especialy Suga complained on how poor the agency was before that (There exist a interview where the boys showed the food they got when they were rookies vs. what they buy since making a lot money) and EXO allready blew up as they had debuted in 2012

These rankings never make sense and are mostly always just made up numbers from the start, they then get published, and a year later 3-4 other sites will post their networth rankings based on the previous random rankings, thus making it less and less reliable for every year passing

This list in particular looks like someone just googled random comments about networth and went with it

the claims of Jaejoongs wealth have never made any sense whatsoever, and the only source of it is some random article over years ago that has been recycled since. His networth somehow always stayed the same (100m) since as well

The true richest idols on that list are TVXQ, they've been making millions for almost 20 years now. They've been able to sell 1 million concert tickets in a single Japanese tour alone and they are only two.

Those are the richest.

B ) BTS 's concerts & cinema events in 2022 + the money they helped make for YTC in Busan

also like its crazy the amount BTS make in many of the countries etc... for example Japan.

BTS has been the highest earning artist in Japan in GENERAL ie above Japanese artists as well... for the past 2 years (2021 and 2022)

earning over 160M in 2021 and around 94M in 2022 (with just a compilation album). Again keep in mind this is without touring and from ONE COUNTRY ALONE. You can imagine how much they earn from all the other things in their career etc.
