I would prefer great music and average performers, to be honest. I listen to a lot of artists whose performances I don't watch. But luckily my favs performances are as amazing as their music

-
-
i listen to kpop on spotify ony/mvs on first listen so performances are like a lot less important to me
-
-
I listen to and appreciate music alot more than I do performances so definitely great music mediocre performances
-
Amazing music but average performers any day
I think what you mean amazing performer is
like ITZY w super hard choreo but sometimes so-so music or bad song
while the amazing music is like TWICE era 2016-2018
only cute choreo? but amazing music
Wondergirls dance basic move? Tell Me , So Hot , Nobody but awesome song
or T-ara great song + great vocal
but basic dance choreo?
Amazing music FTW -
Whatever, cause I ain't stanning a group I can't both like the music and watching them perform.

gonna say, great music-average performers. Ur avg kpop group is going to be decent/good at performing compared to most non-kpop group.
And for me, music is the biggest thing. But really good performers is a huge plus too, makes watching performances really nice.
-
Great performers can make average music extraordinary. Average performers can ruin great music. Wow, I'm totally alone in this.
I mean, O.O was met with a lot of criticism despite nmixx being really good performers.
i personally don't think great performers can make avg music better, it certainly doesn't do it for me.

I'm that guy who thinks Ven Para was amazing so can you really trust my opinion?! O, and I also love Gotta Get that Grove Back which apparently I'm alone in. And it's also simply a numbers game. There aren't enough amazing songs for every group/singer to only have amazing songs so when they get average songs they have to make them better with amazing performances. The true talent is taking average songs and upgrading them.

Although great performances are always a treat to behold, I actively get disappointed if the live version is way better than the studio version, because the studio version is the one I (and most people) will be listening to 99% of the time. A great performance in that case just reminds you how lackluster the studio version actually is, and how much potential was wasted with it.

This is tricky because a great performance can elevate an okay song, and sucking at performing can dampen the enjoyment of the song.
Reflecting back on the performances I've seen and when I really think about *iconic* songs... it's not that they're so much more amazing than anything else, but that you really feel the emotions the artist wanted you to feel because they convey it so well in their performances.
Like for a (hopefully) not controversial example, watching Big Bang perform Ain't No Fun ended up making that one of my favorite songs from the Alive album, even though I wouldn't say it was the best on its own merits.

Great music but average performers. I listen to music all day (when not in meetings) and it plays an important role in my life (listening, enjoying, exploring). Performances are a nice to have, but it’s not the performances I’m listening to when I go on a road trip or get my morning latte or just gear up to start my day.

There is no amazing music in kpop.

It’s a pop music genre that prioritizes frequent releases. There is rarely something that we can say is profound about kpop.
But this is probably a controversial opinion lol
It’s uniqueness comes from its performance so it’s paramount that the performance is good.
It doesn't have to be groundbreaking, critically acclaimed stuff, just music that is amazing to you whether it's objectively incredible or just suits your taste to a tee.
Like I loved Obsession from the first minute I heard it. I didn't need the performance for that to become one of my fave songs. I had that thing on loop for days on Spotify before I ever saw the video.
But then there's something like Ringa Ringa Ring. I love it and play it all the time but would I love it like I do if it wasn't for Baekhyun's sensational performance? Even when I listen to the audio, I picture the performance in my head.

Amazing music FTWWell, great performers could just mean that they have awesome stage presence and charisma. I don't know that much about Twice, but I've heard they give a great live show. I would say that Big Bang are incredible live performers and they barely dance. I do love some fun choreo tho.

Lol be the tall poppy! It's okay to stand out!
-
I'll admit, i enjoyed watching their performances much more than that song warranted. It wasn't enough to make me a fan though. It can't elevate it that much.

And welcome to akp newbie!

True, but then, i do love when companies release great love versions too. I actually prefer listening to the live version of EXO CBX's Paper Cuts. The studio version is great and cleaner, but then emotion in the love elevates it for me.

Honestly the quality of BB performances got me way more into them then I would've been just on the strength of their music alone. Like Bang Bang Bang is a great song, but this Mama performance is classic.
