this forum is becoming oversaturated with girl group threads
to be fair they are all about the same 5 groups... so yeah girl group centric but not a big variety

not wrong but the invisible hand of the kpop market will decide those that succeed and those that fail...
people have dreams and if a person's dream is to be an idol sometimes a person needs to learn the hard way that not everybody succeeds...
True. Only Brave Girls didnt get your Memo. 😂

the exception that proves the rule??? lol

They do well for me. Rollin is still charting in Melon top 100 and may soon replace Dolphin as the longest charting song there. We ride and Cmbr are also still in Melon somewhere top 200-400.
They slowly gain some fans but of course they struggle compaired to the younger groups since the Kpop audience is not tolerant to age at all.
I dont know any other group that is doing so much festivals and other acts like they do. So they are booked and busy.
The follow up albums after Cmbr werent that successfull. But still reached Melon 100. So the do better than many mid tier groups but are no competition for the big company groups.
So my Fazit. Fandom wise and album sales they successfully left the nugu area and can be considered lowtier. Charting, Streaming is more to midtier. The also have some toptier records.
I guess they can survive fine like this since they are used to live from much lower income.

Mamamoo (are they even considered an active GG anymore?)
I feel like there is room for about 20 ish GGs who can remain financially viable in the current market. Above are 21 GGs by my count who probably bring in enough money to continue indefinitely as a group, plus Mamamoo who i'm not sure can be considered an active GG anymore.
Then we have tier 2 groups selling around 20-50k or with some name recognition, or rookie groups who are showing a little spark beyond pure nugudom.
Honestly i feel like several of the tier 2 groups are only barely viable, i have no clue how a group like Weki has made it this far with 17k album sales. I also worry about EG, Rocket and Cherry, the other groups are all young and have room to grow.
Below this tier we have nugudom and a desperate struggle to remain afloat.
Be happy it's only KPop
I wrote a entire debut list for JPop and there are by now allready 140+ names on it, not kniwing how many it will be at the end of the year
i don't think it's that bad. i think covid kind of messed with timelines so it feels like everyone and their mothers are debuting at the same time but it'll probably settle down now
eh...kpop has always been over-saturated.
Therr are always lot of groups debuting. Only because hybe is now became a top company, earlier it used to be big 3 groups but now we have big 4 groups debuting. means more well known groups are debuting but overall its not a big difference. Also add survival show groups started from produce 101 success.
There's only one group that matters.
nah it has always been lik this
also covid messed up a lot of plans.. newjeans was meant to debut in end of 2020/ early 2021 im hearing
Imagine how young these girls would be 2 years ago
It’s always been like this. It might feel like it’s more because there are more groups from bigger companies this year.

Could be as young as 12 years old, holy cow.
The groups debuting are getting younger which I think is a bit of a concern. Seeing a bunch of young teen girls in a video is a bit disconcerting in my opinion.
