Is it Spotify that removed the songs or was it Kakao M? I mean it makes some sence if it was Spotify the removed them as kind of "punishment" for Kakao M not givin them the right for streaming in SK, but does not make much sence to remove them for Kakao M. I mean, it's not like internatiol Spotify user will start useing the korean musics apps......

no, the thing is . all this time spotify didn't really count on korean streaming market mainly just a medium for intl fan to listen to kpop outside of korea coz melon not available outside kr. just now they want to enter korean market that mean dirrect became competitor.
they mention a deal to enter the market with kakao m (owns melon) . but now all kakao m music is gone then we can assume the deal went south .

Yes, I understand that, but it was a bit unclear who removed the music, but I guess it's Spotify and I'm not suprised they did because Kakao M did not give them license to their songs in SK. I guessed this would happen when I first read the news about Kakao M not agreeing with Spotify about a licence in SK.

Kakao M pulled their licenses from Spotify so Spotify was forced to remove I'd guess.

Spotify can live without this content and still be extremely profitable but sadly without exposure for these artists on an international platform they might lose out a lot and in the end kakao is representing their artists if the artists put pressure to resume on Spotify kakao can’t do anything.

I don't knw what kind of contract between Kaokao and their artist but judged by this outcome, I think Kaokao has a final say.

Spotify will win the fight in the end, Kakao M will not have a chance in the long run, they will give in at some point.

U Miss the fact that alot of label not gonna like this . THey will Miss alot of internasional exposure.

Coz melon not even available outside ke.

And when the news came out that Spotify gonna go into Korea like 1/2 months ago some knetz comment they like Spotify business model alot plus they can listen to alot of internasional music.

Spotify has the upper hands here.

And the difference between the number of registered user is so big for the label to Ignore.

There's 2 posibility

1.Melon straight up refuse the offer

2.they think what Spotify offer is too low.

Either way they just delay the inevitable .

What i understand is why they did it Internationally.

My theory is

kakao m refuse or think the offer is too low and don't give the right to Spotify to distribute their music in korea . So spotify don't have any reason to distribute kakao music Internationally either. to give pressure .

Some artist already questioning this. Like Tablo, big naughty, etc

I wonder if Kpop companies can pull out of KakaoM and find another distributer for Spotify

I wonder if KakaoM will pull out all Kpop companies out of Melon if they do that.
