Who 73

IU clearing (49) 67%

BTS obviously (11) 15%

I can’t explain it but this is a reach. (13) 18%
Just look at first 24 hour unique listeners.
I can’t explain it but this is a reach.
ofc IU
Stats says IU but BTS and IU did release on the same day back in 2017. DNA was #2 and whatever IU released was #1 but DNA was pre-everything. So I honestly can't say with absolute certainty now with how the 24 hour hit chart works would fair out. We need them to overlap again. Even her #1 is the lowest her UL have ever been @1.
I agree, I think IU and for BTS it would depend on the song but not impossible.

What Iu released on that day was "Autumn Morning", a 1993 song which was quite obscure when it was released. But because it was played on Hyori's Homestay the previous day the public swallowed it up before dna
IU without a doubt.
BTS is more known for their album songs charting and longetivity rather than the highest peak possible for a single or a title track.
Oh another thing!
If the reform hadn't happened then it would have a really close competition because of the structure of older charts (and tbh would have been fun to follow if there would have been this scenario). But now after the reform it is difficult to top IU.
Even GD&Taeyang at their height of popularity could not beat her when they released at the same day and time in 2015.
Longevity is another matter but how "good" a song is will in most cases don't affect the first 24 UL too much. That's more down to the artists and expectations, chart perfomance after that depends more on the song itself.

I mean the song would have topped either way, it's doubtful the 24h uls were affected in any meaningful way. It was a surprise release at 7am KST on a monday when everyone goes to work, the only warning was a instagram hours earlier that fans could expect a present in the morning. 99% found out she had released when they put their music on in the morning commute and there was a new IU song in the chart.
For reference first 24 hour UL's:
Autumn morning: 1,176,259
DNA: 526,690
Only eight artists(IU excluded) have ever had a song with higher ul's than autumn morning, and of those two features IU.
Of the top 20 song with most uls, IU have seven songs + two songs she features in that would not be there without her. The top 3 songs are all IU.
IU will definitely take it at the top. Anything she releases tops.
But I really wanna see what would have happened with celebrity and dynamite if they dropped together. According to stats dynamite digits points in the later weeks are higher than celebrity digitals. So I think IU would have taken the lead for awhile then maybe BTS would have taken it back sometime later.
Ahhh I seriously wanna see this face off

As usual your plagued take on anything IU.
Here is what S00mpi has to say
"Last night’s episode of JTBC’s “Hyori’s Homestay” also played a short clip of “Autumn Morning” as the background music, but since the song wasn’t yet released, it may have gone unnoticed..."
How many people would have recognized a 1991 (not 1993 it says) folk song, from a short clip, to swallow it to the extent that it beat DNA.
The entire promotion for the song was that short bit in Hyori's Homestay, an Instragram update at midnight and then the 7 a.m. surprise release. Still she beat DNA.
Why don't you use some other excuse like, the pollution was high in Seoul that day, there was a lot of traffic jam,, that is why IU charted better.
They are as believable as your other reasons. :)
But anyway, one time might not be enough evidence, and 2017 BTS was not as crazy big as they are now. Then they were famous in Korea, but now they have the reflected amplification of being famous internationally.
I think they would stay out of each others way, after all it benefits them both to have fans disputing such things like this thread.
Nevertheless IU proved that she probably is one artist who is immune to the bulldozer that is BTS, with Autumn Morning release.
IU will definitely beat BTS in term of ULs, but who will chart better will depend on which song that GP prefers.
IU celebrity and Lilac ULs dropped quite fast after the first day. From 830k to around 600k on the second day so BTS still have a chance to beat IU, but it depends on the song. I think IU will still beat BTS in real-time chart, but bts will take over after midnight.

Well it goes without saying, that effective result will depend a lot on the song either release.
But as reputations go, IU tends to release more in tune with GPs tastes in Korea - ballads, nostalgic, melodic etc., while BTS can vary more than her.
So this can be answered only by looking at past precedents. The closest they came was Autumn Morning and DNA in 2017, IU topped then.
But I seriously doubt if we will ever see that again. It is better for them both not to overlap, and let the fans play the guessing game.
IU has perfected the art of fighting in the Korean domestic market, but I don't think she will beat BTS in Spotify

Spotify is not a competition by any stretch of the imagination.

Aren't you good at data analysis?
Could you please check the longevity performance of Autumn Morning Vs. DNA?
I don't know why IU is underrated in longevity.
TTN is the only match for Spring Day.
But yes Dynamite is getting to be the next long burner for BTS.
So edge to BTS there, still will be good to compare AM and DNA

Autumn Morning - 27 weeks (#1 peak); 2.5M downloads
DNA - 82 weeks (#2 peak); 2.5M downloads, 100 million streams

Thank you.. Guess at least in this instance it is true that BTS longevity >> IUs.
If you ever are interested and have the time, can I request average longevity for both.
Not to actually engage i this like a war
but
i feel like there would be a war on twitter...

Neither cause Melon would die and crash on that release day
