Basically this. Of course I can't speak for all guys, but the groups that lean more toward a rock concept or a rap concept with a harder edge are what male listeners would like.
The softer or cuter concepts aren't as appealing, nor are the BFE/parasocial type concepts (unless that's what you're into). We aren't looking for a group that is singing to "us" about loving us or whatever.
As far as the sexy/showing skin thing, I don't know if thats a HUGE issue. Plenty of guys like male groups and singers all over the world that show skin/act sexy, if the music fits their taste. On a male heavy discord I used to hang out on, Wonho is super popular among straight dudes there, and his thirst trap stuff is a source of constant amusement.

To be honest, I don't seek out BGs a lot, I'll listen when they come to me or theres a lot of hype (like I'll always check out a new BTS song so I know what everyones talking about).
I probably would be put off if a bg did do a soft/cute concept, but if it was a one off kind of thing thats cool, groups can experiment. I'd also be a bit put off if a gg I follow shifted up their style or concept too much though (eg Dreamcatcher and Airplane)
And I think most kpop bgs, at least on first glance, project a softer image in terms of visual appearance. Even when trying to look "tough" or hard. Its only on listen to their music that you get a clearer understanding of their sound, which COULD explain why some guys don't get into them. They are judging on first look and seeing a "boy band"

That does make sense. As someone used to Western acts, the concept looks took a bit of getting used to even if the songs were similar to ones I already enjoyed.

I am a woman. The only k-pop GG that has appeal to me is Blackpink. Rest appear too cutesy /sweetie for me. I think k-pop GG has mostly appeal to GP in Korea which are pre- dominantly men. They dont buy albums but do great in streaming both in their K-chart platform & Youtube . Though they also have loyal female fans which are usually the ones that buy albums . In short, you’ll know who has more female fans based on album sales. Most men I know wont buy an album but probably watch youtube content of k-pop girl group ( cutesy or sexy) or listen to their songs in whatever platform . This is also the reason why most BG have higher physical sales. Women in general are loyal while men ( GP) will go the next younger GG when the group gets older. Only if you have accummulated a good number of female fans will a gg have a chance to retain their fame after 5 yrs. For now, it’s just BP or perhaps TWICE but I dont know them enough to like them. It’s too many members for me to remember.

This is untrue GGs have more female listeners than BGs and the ratio of women to men is usually 50-50 tipping towards women. BGs just have a predominantly female audience in comparison to GGs. But women are more likely to listen to a GG than a BG.

kpop is still dominant by girl whether it is bg or gg the majority of the fan is still girl

This is factually wrong. GG listeners are split 50-50 and more likely to be more women than men. It’s only BGs that are dominated by women. Everyone listens to GGs.

Well , I am a woman and the only K-pop girl group I listened is BP . I am not even the type who buys any of their album or merchs. I only do that for one bg. I know many who are like me who cant stomach kpop gg for their absurb sweet/cutesy songs in sexy outfits. We often wonder if their casual male fans are mostly old men who like to watch female videos in skimpy outfit 😂. That feels so wrong esp if the group members are mostly below 18. .

oh my girl has alot of fan girls. I think their concept is more fantasy than cute though. Like a fairy-tale. I don't think there are any active boy groups right now that guys are majority fans. Maybe shinee, I don't know. I wouldn't want to watch another dude grinding on stage, singing sweet nothings. Or acting like a badass with perfectly manicured nails and hair. (Not saying you cannot be a badass if you are)
