SM has/had several successful groups in the spam of almost 20 years, meanwhile HYBE debuted the most successful kpop group ever which was enough to make them richer than the big 3 combined.

Yet a certain HYBE group's popularity and impact is bigger than 99% of those groups you have mentioned

Other companies and acts may be bigger, richer, popular etc.

But the reality is Kpop would still exist without any of them, whereas there is no Kpop as a distinctive industry, without Lee Soo Man and SM.

Pop, as genre is not unique

Korea has and had many other genres of music and music-makers.

But K-pop is unique first by the idol trainee system and then everything else. And that is SM-LSM.

It is an industry and not a genre.

Like Ford for car manufacturing in the US - introducing assembly line processing etc.

SM is for Kpop in Korea, introducing idol trainee system.

But the credit is more the LSM, than SM groups, who can be compared with other groups.
