Concept group vs Non concept Group

Honestly both, you get the best of both worlds.

With concept groups, you may not get a change in music direction (e.g. there's no way aespa is going to do something like Cheer Up etc) so there isn't a whole lot of range BUT I already like aespa the way they are and if they keep releasing similar music they've put out, I'm here for it. The downside is for other groups, if I don't like their concept, there's a low chance they'll change it anyway so I'm not going to further check them out. But if other people like it how I like aespa, more power to them.

As for groups without specific concepts, there's always a surprise to come and that's more exciting :)

I mean I might watch a mv some couple of times at first but later I will not care aside from the music, the music has to bang

Considering the 2 groups I stan are very go-with-the-flow and switch up their concept a lot, that one

I like it because I don't know whats next, variety of music, and also letting the music/style grow with them

I don’t really care tbh. I just listen to groups whose music I like concepts or not.

That said and since you mentioned them, stan Kingdom they have the best concept currently in kpop. Ain’t nobody doing it like them.

depends on the concept i guess, but i would generally prefer that groups not be afraid to branch out and not have to force connections betweem projects. i keep thinking back on that one bg who had like... different kings or something as their main thing and that just felt incredibly restricting.

That's tough. With Pixy and Aespa the world they've created does draw me in a lot but I do like non-concept groups as they have more flexibility and can be more surprising.

I think I might prefer non-concept.

Hm. What should I vote for? Txt has a clear storyline (boys growing up etc ) but the their music is changing and they keep trying new things. Then they connect that to their storyline.

I voted the first. They do try new things but it’s all part of them growing up with their music. They always make it fit.

Concept is safer because if you like their sound now you will probably like their sound tomorrow. Changing concepts is a hit or miss.

BTS has both concept and go with the flow I think.. because they had the school boy concept during debut (2cool4skool), then a story line of youth, brotherhood and growing up during the HYYH era (both era are in the BTS Universe storyline), and then as they grew older the concept was on self recognition and self love (Love Yourself era). They also have the non concept era of Dynamite, Butter and Permission to Dance..

So I like both

I usually prefer number 1 for every girl groups I like.

Number 2 only works if you release too many music and you want to keep every comebacks fresh and brand new.

Technically, EXO and Red Velvet have overarching concepts. Concepts don’t just matter in terms of storylines and story. For example, Wonder Girls concept is retro. There’s no storyline but there’s a clear concept. Similarly, RV’s concept is suppose to be red = quirky/pop and velvet = r&b/cool.

Exo has a lore but they go with the flow trying different kinds of concepts

I like both BTS and Enhypen. I don't care that much about the existence of a concept, the music has to be good for me to become a fan.

Non concept all the way

Bighit still have the bangtan universe but its clear they lost what made it special by dragging it for ages, leaving everything open for interpretation and pretty much forcing to the point the members look as lost as fans in the whole thing. I mean obviously concepts are made by the company creative team and not the members, but you could see there was a connection in the start since they had to act like their characters but then they turned that into some time travel thing and it went downhill from there... till today I still don't understand what smeraldo and the purpose of highlight reels was (unless the purpose was making jin look hot wich they did then i'm all for it )

Concepts. The darker the better.
