Is Somi still popular/ "IT" in Korea?

After IOI and left JYP, her popularity were never the same

Cause she has no music, and her stages have been shaky.

IOI ended and she was back to trainee for 2 years, then went to YG, and released 3 songs in 1.5 years. So she kinda stalled out, still popular, just not to the extent she was

She released only a song in a year and a half and it flopped. She had everything to become 4th gen it girl, now I don't think it's gonna happen.

I think she underestimated how hard it's to actually make music and be a soloist.

Nope. She has never been believed as it girl. She only once has been considered as such a potential. But it didn't happen.

Lack of comebacks and hiatus is the biggest reason why she lost her hype, 'birthday' and 'what you waiting for' were good songs but 1 comeback a year won't work.

Chungha has released 15+ songs in same time frame in which somi release just 3.

Her songs are okay. Her dancing isn't exceptionally good. Her personality is alright. She just seems a little bland right now. To be a great soloist/IT girl material you need to have everything or at least be exceptionally good at one thing. She is very pretty but that is not enough to carry her. Maybe people expected too much from her that everything she put out so far seems underwhelming.

She isnt under the main YG she's under the subsidary label. YG aint responsible, teddy and whoever else owns the blacklabel is.

You could almost say that this is her college phase where hopefully she's learning to self-compose, self-produce and write she just needs a song to hit it big

She's also signed under Interscope so she maybe gearing for a western push

YG does not have majority ownership of TBL anymore. I assume Teddy took majority ownership in 2020 (who else would have? Teddy is rich enough).

Exactly. Somi is trying to write all her songs, so it's taking more time than usual. It will pay off in the long run in royalties.

All the business decisions Somi has made have been quite good (probably because of her dad). There's a reason she's rich at 19.

Well considering they're hardly any talk or buzz about I think the answer is a big no. I think I've heard about her dad more than I have of her lol

People here are dumb but maybe that's on purpose. Somi alone has more cfs than 80% of the groups you guys stan, she's earning more money because she makes her own music and doesn't share with 7 members. She gets to live with her family and spend her days in school and with friends, unlike what was offered to her as an idol member

She's enjoying her life after being overworked during her teen years, so she's doing great for herself

I dont know about her popularity but her songs (all of them so far) have been surprisingly good.

No. And the difference between her and Chungha is both her and the label took her career seriously unlike Somi. After Chungha released her debut in 2017 she followed it up with Rollercoaster and Love U in 2018 and then dominated the charts with Gotta Go in 2019. Chungha had longevity and consistency.

Somi is more about being an Instagram influencer and the brands she gets from these fashion labels moreso her singing career.

For 4 years after ioi, most ppl said she's done but she's still popular n raking up the cfs. She is not as popular as during her ioi days but all her fans now are loyal af. Ppl will be shock to see the sales number when she releases her album soon
