Of all the idols I think are overrated, I would say the one that fits this category the most for me is Blackpink, even though I used to love them at the beginning. Now I'm more of a casual fan and I still don't think they are that good and talented compared to their popularity, but when you look at them compared to standard kpop, it is easy to see why they are so huge.

Idols are 98% overrated, my faves included. I'll just say the exception are real great main vocals or main rappers, I don't think main dancers being excellent are as important as the others two main so literally just really great main vocals, rappers and songwriters, composers, etc.
The others are just ok, good and overpraised a lot by fans.
GD, Soyeon, Taeyeon, Wendy, RM, etc sit on a separate table different from the others idols.

Every idols under HYBE, SM, JYPE, YG
K-pop fandoms have no objective perspective on their favorites. You can go on any social network or under any video and the comments are absolutely always the same, explaining that their idols are unique and have immense talent.
The problem with BIG4 idols is that these groups have much larger and louder fandoms, but in addition, these companies put much more emphasis on the visual aspect of their casting. Several of these idols also explained that they were recruited on the street or at concerts because the recruiters found them to be handsome. But everyone prefers to continue to turn a blind eye and keep the myths alive.
The funniest thing about all this is that many people have taken advantage of this to make money from this fanatical fandom by inventing professions as vocal coaches or dance teachers and making cheap rankings on YouTube, taking care to always rank popular idols well and to follow the myths created by fans around these idols.

Couldn't agree more. The hype over since True Beauty baffles me. Sure, he's good looking, but Hwang In-yeop has more going for him in terms of looks. I'm surprised he wasn't a breakout star from it.

You are fat-shaming him. He is the contrary of fat. He is most of the most athletic idols out there and had some abs for most of his career. He gained some weight back in 2015 and have lost everything by 2016. There were even concerns about how thin he was during all these years.
