Have you ever felt like a Kpop idol was too good for their group?

For me, it’s Soyeon in (G)-IDLE. She’s insanely talented and I feel like her group is holding her back sometimes.

Being good is one thing, being the most popular is another thing.

The only person that's being held back by her other members in GIDLE is Miyeon. Soyeon is having full reins, love. Miyeon is one of the best vocalists of this present generation.

Nope! Being solo is 10x times difficult! It is better to reach success and popularity through debuting in a group and then go solo!

I don't think Soyeon is too good for G-Idle I actually think that she is too good for Cube and also that G-Idle is too good for Cube but Soyeon's fine where she is right now - give it a few years I want to see how her talents excel.

Nancy is too good for Momoland as well. She would've been a bigger if only MLD didn't flop with promoting them.

Most companies are bad - even the one's that are seen as somewhat good by the public are probably bad.

Can you imagine if they did like a duet together it would be like the first time that a couple has sung together right? I don't know of any other couples that have.

Mamamoo's case is interesting though because from debut, they were always marketed as four soloists in a group so it looks like their CEO planned for all of them to do solos at some point anyway.

As much as i find miyeon’s voice pretty, she’s not “one of the best vocalist of this gen”. She’s very stylistic but even Yuqi has more support than her. In any case, i have no qualms with G-idle’s vocal line, theyre one of my fave vocal lines out there. it just rubs me the wrong way that Eunji is “an able vocalist” (lol) while miyeon is “one of the best of her gen”. Ngl.

i'm not sure, there are many artists that could have made it solo, but i am very familiar with astro and i don't believe eunwoo would have made it as solo. at least not without being a part of astro first

This is just plain disrespectful to the other members of the groups mentioned. The companies may suck but to say one member is better than the others is just crazy. The group has helped all the members gain popularity and they fit in the group(as long as there isn't bullying.) Though you(op) may not be meaning it in a toxic way, it came off as rude and some the replies are just plain mean.

3 of the members you quoted don't have enough vocal or rapping skills to be soloists, Hwasa being the exception

People forget soloists needs to be able to sing or rap if they want a career. Eunwoo is famous because he's actor, Seolhyun is famous because she's a model, the Momoland girl isn't famous at all and her popularity born from her fancams

See it? Absolute none of them are famous because of their music or music talent, they are so aware to that they never even bothered to release solo stuff

If they debuted as soloists they would all bombed hard

Ikon’s bi: co-wrote the masterpiece that is whistle! And for that he has a special place in my heart, but rather than being too good for the group. He just couldn’t imo uplift them would’ve been better to debut solo and keep doing songs for other groups.

Gidle’s Miyeon: should’ve debuted with bp.. good vocals and dancing and great visuals. I don’t find her image overlapping with jisoo as she could be the quiet pretty type and jisoo the goofy one. I wonder how their songs will sound like if she debuted with them tho and how the line distribution would be.

I know of a couple but it would be unsporting of me to name names.

Plenty of people feel like that. They are called akgaes and are a pain in the ass of any fandom

For me, only Miyeon competes with Soyeon for my attention when it comes to Gidle. I pretty much just watch their performances and content for the two of them, i dont pay attention to the other four except when they're interacting with the Yeon sisters.

i dont mean it in a bad way but im thinking about mark from nct. im not saying hes better than the rest, of course not, but this guy is a whole package - a rapper, dancer, singer, funny, hot, amazing stage presence and sense of humour. he also wrote lots of nct's songs and debuted in 3 groups. i hope gives him solo debut. same with taeyong actually but mark is just out of this world and sm doesnt deserve him.

also i feel like you kinda misinterpreted the topic of this thread - there's no way that eunwoo or yeonwoo are/were 'too good' for their group. popularity doesnt equal talent - if im honest the only thing that keeps them popular withing their groups is the visual. i never looked at eunwoo as a musician, i dont even know whats his position in astro.

Sejeong is the first that comes into my mind. Honestly the groups in which one member is 10 times popular than the group itself can come into this category easily bcoz being a part of the group is doing nothing for them or their group.

Fantagio should had just debut Eunwoo as a model and then go into acting tbh.

D.O. should go with Lee Seung Gi route.

I always see these 2 idols as independent, seperate from their groups. In my own opinion, they shine the most on their own.

It's a shame JYP is just promoting the OT9 schedule. So much wasted potential.

(G)I-DLE is honestly heavily unbalanced. Soyeon is one of the most talented idols in the 4th gen and Shuhua barely sings in their songs? I understand that she's not confident in her Korean but being an idol is not only about dancing or having a fun personality - I really wish she could showcase her vocals more.
