Itzy weren't dominant AT ALL. Hell, they have never even made it to Gallup. Everyone has just overrated their success because they are from JYP when in reality they have like 2 hit songs.

They dominated in 2019 and 2020, but nowadays their hype has gone. I must to say that 2019 Itzy is not a group you can see now. They debuted with a fresh concept, a blend of kpop with EDM, truly impressive. Dunno why, since 2020 J Y Park turned them to typical girl crush blackpink-wannabes. In addition, his baseless favoritism towards Ryujin was so annoying that I stopped support Itzy since 2020.
The last release is pretty good though, but a golden time is wasted.

Honestly they could have had a minor hit with Imaginary Friend if it was released first. Idk, they have a little over a year left in their contracts so I guess JYPE is not going to try more with them. A solo debut and a world tour and then they will disband imo.

It depends on the metrics used to determine who the top 5 are.
Are they in the top five based on sales and charts and other ~metrics~ as of today? Probably not. I'd put them sixth. Off of the top of my head, I don't know any other 4th gen gg that matches them, so they're certainly in the second tier and may even be a gatekeeper to the top tier group in terms of active ggs overall. But maybe there are others that I'm just blanking on since I'm not refreshing chart and sales threads.
If you mean top five in terms of greatness, then I think it's too early to tell. I always think it's best to wait 15 to 20 years from an artist's active peak in order to reflect upon their greatness relative to their era. Provisionally, I don't think I'd put them there, but it's still too early to tell for me at least.

And let's not talk about 2019 - 2020 when absolutely no 4th gen gg from big company even debuted
To me i would put itzy as #6 or #7
I would switch them with StayC based on their comebacks
StayC have pretty much the same amount of top 10 hit than itzy have
So i would put them in the same tier almost
ITZY's debut era was really where you can say that they were a top group but that's expected since no big groups existed yet and (G)I-DLE hasn't blown up yet around that time. IZ*ONE also having a shorter shelf life than normal might have helped ITZY in a way.
Nowadays, I more or less see them as a gatekeeper for the top 5 GGs of 4th Gen.
They didn’t dominate anything
They were alone in 4th gen and Gidle didn’t blow up and Izone was meant to disband from the start
When Aespa came they already became number 1 with their 1st cb Next Level internationally and Domestically!
Now itzy has good sales but their charting on Spotify and Korea is nonexistent!
Even Kiss of Life beat them with ease
I like them, but they're not a top 5 group. They started off strong, but kind of fell off. They're in the top 10 though

I think they're currently 6th, but can see a group like Kiss of Life having a bigger impact. I don't think groups like Artms, Qwer, TripleS, Nmixx, , Kep1er, Illit, and a few other finishing above them. I think there is a gap with the top 5 and the others. It is possible for a group like Babymonster to get ahead of them if they create a hit because they do have a lot of fans
It really depends if the same fate awaits LSFM
Itzy and LSFM are very similar in many ways. They had some Korean success and ofc very strong internationally but after consecutive Korean flops, Itzy faded away internationally as well.
That May as well happen to LSFM and in that case we can argue for the fifth position for LSFM or Itzy
Top four being IVE, AESPA, NEW JEANS and GIDLE is for now undisputed. While the fifth position is up for grabs and only time will tell.

Dumdi Dumdi outcharted both of Itzy's songs in 2020 in Korea.
While I definitely agree, and think this battle to make Kpop a competitive sport with rankings is the most stupid, moronic thing kpop fans do...
