Illit’s debut has been a huge success, with Magnetic everywhere, but it's interesting how this hasn’t translated well into individual member popularity and hype, at least from what I can see.
People have often labeled Nj as a ‘boring’ group lacking star power, but Minji, Hanni, and Haerin especially, are always trending everywhere and frequently discussed even if they’re not yet on the level of Karina or Wy. I don’t even need to mention Aespa, Ive, Lsf and Gidle; these groups all have standout members that's always put their group in the spotlight. Even compared to Bm, there’s a huge gap in followers and social media engagement with Illit, despite the group still didn't produce any hit song.
It’s interesting that Magnetic hasn’t brought much spotlight to the members. I wonder why that is. Maybe it's just me, but it feels like a 50/50 situation once again where people recognize the song but not the singers. This shouldn't really be happening with Illit, considering they’re from Korea’s biggest entertainment company. Hybe seems focused on pushing Wonhee as their It girl and Minju as the visual. Yet, there doesn’t seem to be much discussion or hype around them to actually carrying their group in public eyes. Their recent comeback hasn’t made much noise either even after a huge hit like Magnetic, only strengthens my assumption.
