I have no problem with idols getting PS as long as it isn't forced upon them and it's their own choice. I'm also not one of those K-pop fans who are overtly obsessed with which idol has done what - since we can't be 100% sure what's the real cause behind changes anyway, whether that's make up & styling, angle, photoshoot editing, weight/health changes etc aside from PS.
If idols have done some PS, I only hope they can be happy with the result themselves. After all, it's no 100% guarantee that you get the exact outcome that you were aiming for as can be seen by many middle age female actresses in the West.
The only problem I have with PS, is this weird obsession that many K-pop fans have with it, and specifically where those people love to talk PS about OTHER idols than their biases but their own biases are offlimits. The reason for this that it's so obvious that in practically all those cases the PS claim/discussion is being instigated in bad faith, with malicious motivation being the engine behind it.
the thing is choice is the wrong way to think about Ps. We live in a society, our choices are influenced, our consent is manufactured. If it didn’t exist maybe we would be finding ways to come to peace with how we look or make the beauty market less restrictive. And anyway, people make choices that are bad all the time. the choice to hurt friends or to do hard drugs. choice is irrelevant
i don’t think women should grow up in a world that encourages cutting yourself up for and constantly chasing perfection. there’s something wrong with you, and you should fix it. everyone has to be beautiful what’s wrong with you if you’re not beautiful. it’s a horrible approach to existing in your own body

i’ll tell you what the problem is that NO ONE is bringing up. kiof has always been toeing this line of cultural ”dabbling” let’s say.
they twerk (julie twerks so well it’s a meme), they do mostly rnb, they have a song called ti quiero. there’s that one vid of natty with all their black back up dancers. the fashion (natty +julie) has already been very inspired by early 2000s black women rnb star aesthetics
they have purposefully used these aesthetics and considered themselves allowed to use these aesthetics. they’ve gotten comfortable, perhaps even feel entitled, forgetting themselves and believing they can be the inner circle of the joke as if they are part of it rather than still being in other cultures spaces

I know who wins this comparison but kpop groups in general, do not get more fame based on their singing ability. You can be mariah carey for all I care, but if the song is shit, the song shit and NMIXX has had a long list of shit songs (not all of them but still).
Their entire discography has been in a decline, no tea no shade. KNOW ABOUT ME is a step up and high horse raises the bar for them but knowing how jyp handles their artists, i doubt they will get another song like KNOW ABOUT ME nor High Horse anytime soon.
LE SSERAFIM on the other hand, may not be on NMIXX's level, vocal-wise but they have good songs (minus the fact that most of those songs are wayyy too short) and they put up good performances. They may not be known for singing but you can't deny that they have raised the bar for 4th gen ggs, performance-wise.
i know nmixx has been having really bad songs but let’s not pretend like le ssera has only released artistic masterpieces. unforgiven was probably the worst TT i’ve seen in decades, hot and easy are bland.
and those girls are sexualized to hell and back. i feel bad for them in a way that’s indescribable, their artistic identity sold out for chart toppers dragging them through pits of hatred and despair to continue being a product to be bought and sold. j can’t interact with them because it makes me feel bad for the industry.
nmixx flopping might have been a blessing because at least they have a core fan base here for singing and experimental music, le ssera has been packaged into a sexy void that means nothing anymore . i hope you’re happy for them
