These days i would say they are equal or WY is just a tiny but ahead
These days Karina have been trending a lot more on koreans forum than Wonyoung
And Karina seems to establish her star power even more these past months
by getting a fix role on Yoo Jaesuk new variety show
+ Her unrelease solo song going viral in korea
+ Getting recognise in korea as the idol who put the geek chic aesthetic back to trend with her airport look

It’s going to be interesting imo to maintain IT status as your group becomes more established you either need to go into acting or start having solo releases. Which is something I haven’t seen wonyoung doing. At this point she’s merely the most popular member from a successful group. Doesn’t she even have solo in their concert or anything? She just feels very tied to the group identity at this point.
Karina on the other hand has even if it’s just a starting shown she can carry herself on her own with her recent solo at the concert going viral. Ofc this isn’t really enough just yet.
Anyway people are shortsighted if they think Wonyoung is untouchable if anything she’s one of the weakest IT girls because she hasn’t yet shown that she can do anything on her own which is actually the main sign for being an IT girl. Karina too is a bit on the same boat though she is branching out more.
Let’s see how it goes.

Currently I feel karina is bigger than Wonyoung everywhere. SM has also gotten much more serious about taking karina to next level.
Wy popularity has gone down with ive popularity going down. Not surprising as Ive was the biggest reason her popularity became bigger after izone. Before wy was the most popular 4th gen it girl in Korea and internationally. Wy needs to find something outside of beauty and fashion. I still think she had the most influence among 4th gen girls but right now karina is overshadowing.

I don't have a clue who Wonyoung is (well, I acctully know she is a popular member of IVE/IZONE/Produce 48) but had you asked my one week ago I would not have remembered that. And I can't point out Karina on a photo of Aespa, so I think I pass this vote. But in general I don't think any of them is a "IT girl"

I’m very alien to all Wonyoung’s brandings, deals, events etc but I know of Karina’s all too well
Karina has it all, the deals, the clout, the popularity, the followers, even her solo career is bursting of demand I think the only thing Wonyoung had on Karina was time as she debuted years before Karina but Karina has caught up imo

to back up, wj was popular and 4th gen most booked, talked, searched member even before ive debut, her popularity (and yujin) help ive rise up so much, even today when ive didnt got n1 she is till so talk about. If are just the topic of conversation while your group has a n1, its not just about, like why didnt u did it when ur group didnt have that?

In Korea, most searched female idole in Youtube for first half of 2024, and in Google for 2023. Wonyoung is no#2.
Then compare their endorsements and Karina has higher profile ones and more of them over the past year.
K - Kloud Krush, YSL lipstick, Converse Korea, Vita 500 Zero, Musinsa Beauty, and of course Prada.
W - Amuse, Rolarola, Kerastase, Tommy Jeans
Then add in Karina being on Synchro You with Yoo Jae Suk, and Agents of Mystery on Netflix. Her recent concert solo going viral, even being incorporated into a short film by Mnet. Don't believe WY has filmed any major solo content but a Dive might be able to correct me.
Throw in the Youtube fancam numbers and views on the likes of like Lee Youngji or Hyeri's shows where the only female idols that get more views than her are BP members.
Then add in insta followers, brand rankings and the success that Aespa's had in Korea over the past year and IMO it's been Karina's year.
If we were back in 2022-2023, then it would have been Wonyoung.

This year Karina has overtaken Wonyoung in Korea!
She sold out a stadium for her first pitch, she is a host at synchro, she already started acting, her unreleased solo is almost as popular as Armageddon on TikTok, she became an ambassador for Musinsa beauty, and Global Ambassador for Prada! She is most searched female idol in Korea on Google and YT this year! She trended much more in Korea than Wonyoung!
So this year Karina is Number 1 in Korea!

So they obviously think cuz WY had more job on her whole career the gap with karina is huge
But actually in korea it's not and i feel international fans love to kind of dismiss karina popularity as celebrity in korea
She literally Sold out the screening in a cinema of her little 10min movie which is free on youtube in less than 5 minutes

Actually karina popularity isn't just because of her physic
Actually she have gain a lot of attention and likebility from the public cuz they find her very relatable which is something that a lot of "it girl" aren't necessarily to people
They are pretty but personnality wise people don't really identify to them because they show a very classy image
In contrary karina have been call a lot a "stupid cat" cuz of the difference between her very pretty physics which is completely different from her very random, geek, anime lover personality
And also cuz of her way of treating fans, her interaction with her fans on bubble are often trending on theqoo and other forum
I think it's actually her biggest strenght and what makes her stand out from other it girl
She have the beauty of a visual and the personnality of a weirdo
So it feels fresh to see someone like her
