[Confirmed] Inkigayo to stop using Korean charts for digital scores

You know why clueless BIG4 stans are happy now? Because they know that now, this is going to evaporate the smallest chance for small or mid-size agency artists to win something. With this, they're literally removing the whole competition.

If they do this, I'm 100000% sure that no one will attend to any Music Show that support this madness!

Maybe they want to be the show that focuses on Korean songs that are popular internationally and not just in Korea. It would make them different at least. Let's face it, music shows are redundant as is.

They already use many criterias reflecting global performance (youtube views, pre-voting on a global plataform, physical sales), now if even the digitals will reflect global success, It will become harder and harder for artists only popular in their country to win on music shows.

HYBE pressuring Inkigayo after they saw LSFM floundering on the k-charts.

Spotify Korea is filled with BTS solo songs no one listens to and YouTube Korea is mostly K-pop groups so it’s dumb either way

Name more than 10 groups and soloists with big FIRST WEEK streams! Because, you know, the 1st week that counts on every Music Show. First week sales, streaming, charts etc. After the first week, the only way you can keep winning, if you're still charting in the TOP10 and have massive sale numbers.

Now, imagine FiftyFifty with these numbers winning anything against Babymon, Blackpink, BTS, TWICE, Aespa, ILLIT, LE Sserafim etc.

Be serious, please. They didn't have 2.5M streams after 3 WEEKS! Imagine them competing with groups or soloists like Blackpink and BTS members with a DAILY 2-3M streams.

I expect a massive boycott from Kpop artists. Just imagine if all those small and mid-size agency artist won't promote their work on any Music Show. They have to shut down, because they bring in the most money, not the BIG4 groups, because they are like 1% of the whole Kpop.

Global makes literally no sense imo, killing the entire spirit of music shows basically. Including SK Spoti and YT, sure. But I can't believe they are going to include GLOBAL numbers.

Let's be real, Music Shows are more important for rookies anyway. So if BIG4 stans want to celebrate their meaningless wins, good for them.

This is the TOP10 on Spotify Korea Weekly chart. Now, compare this with Kcharts. Honestly, I would be surprise if Kpop artists don't do anything about this madness.

High charting songs without a huge fanbase backing are basically screwed now. It was nice to see artists like Bibi and Young Ji bag wins, something that probably won't happen anymore with the change.

It looks like they're changing from the current criteria:

55% Digital

30% SNS

10% Album

10% Broadcast

5% Pre-Voting

5% Live Voting

To the new criteria:

50% Digital

20% SNS

10% Album

10% Broadcast

5% Pre-Voting

5% Live Voting

Global consumption will be included in the digital score, but it's not clear how exactly.

M Countdown already does something similar, since its digital score is based on Circle's Global K-pop Chart.

I hate the change, but people are acting like it's all Music Shows and not just Inkigayo. Artists from smaller companies can still win on The Show and Show Champion, and they were rarely ever winning on Inkigayo anyway.

Also, NOBODY here hates HYBE more than me, but you're kidding yourselves if you think they can pressure SBS, who own and run Inkigayo. They're much bigger than HYBE

Imagine, a song becomes very popular in Korea but have poor or 0 repercussion in foreign platforms, then a song that is less popular in Korea but very popular internationally wins the show. I dont know others, but if I'm looking a local award ceremony, I want to see what is popular in my country based in what my peers are listening, not foreigners.

I think a better idea would be to do an award in parallel based in foreign popularity, something like the award for Best International Film in the Oscar x example.

But dying population is not just a problem of Korea! In most of the developed countries it is a huge problem! Be it Europe, Japan, China or US!

US just allows a lot of immigrants to come in so they don’t have that problem!
