A question for men

Has kpop ever made you want to wear makeup or dress like a kpop artist?

Well... I'm not a man, but I remember when I was a teen and sometimes just for fun followed makeup tutorials on how to have a makeup look like G-Dragon. (I looked horrible lol)

Now a days, when I wear outfits, I sometimes get inspired by what some kpop artists are wearing. (my fashion Pinterest boards has some kpop pictures in it.)

Even though I don't think I often wear kpop inspired make up looks anymore. I do often apply make-up, but it is more for special occasions and not a daily kind of thing.

The reason, why I'm asking men about it, is because wearing makeup is something that people consider "feminine".

And people have often said about male kpop artists that "they look like girls".

No I can't say that it has.

I am fairly traditional. And from a more traditional part of my country.

Men don't wear makeup where I'm from. It's just not part of the masculine expectation in my culture.

i wear sunscreen and lip balm at best, if that counts but i wouldnt call that makeup

hairstyles though

ive been sporting kpop hairstyles since middle school and i love them still

will probably do so until i start losing hair

i have a big forehead and textured bangs are perfect for my face shape

fashion, i guess somewhat inspired but never direct copy

i dont have the money to buy that stuff nor do i ever go to fancy places where i'd dress up too much

I come from a jrock/emo background, so I was already wearing makeup

No.

First, I don't think most male fans here follow male kpop idols. So we don't pay attention to the way they dress.

Secondly, do idols really dress fashionably when they're not "working"? I mean, what we see of them is more often a public persona. They wouldn't dress like that to go the grocery store or to the office as a nobody. And us, we are nobodies who go to the office and to the grocery store for toilet paper and canned beans. What sense would it make for us to dress like a kpop idol?

If I were to change my style, I would adopt a more classic, traditional, timeless style: nicely tailored 2-piece suits, quality leather shoes. Which is what I'm considering these days.

Actually theres a great majority of men on this forum who do listen and follow boy groups. I think as a woman they wear makeup better then i do. nothing wrong with admiring that.

I replied based on those who commented in this thread. And most of these guys don't follow kpop boy groups (as can be deduced from their badges). So obviously if you ask them about the influence of male idols on their style and fashion, it's next to none.

I admit that I have a few times worn fabulous clothes, while grocery shopping.

But well... even my casual clothes have been inspired by kpop artists sometimes.

Like I can imagine myself wearing something like this to work.

No. I'm glad men don't need to wear makeup cause it sounds like a pain. As for clothes, I'm an adept of the basic and classic styles. I don't like the "K-pop" style.

I already regularly did full skincare long before getting into K-pop. Also have always had a generally androgynous style. I don’t believe in gender stereotypes and expectations, it doesn’t pain me if I decide I want to try out something that’s perceived as more “feminine”.

Now makeup, that’s something I didn’t want to try before K-pop—simply because what I saw around me and thought makeup had to be I deemed as… just not good looking. Too harsh, cakey, and crazy.

But seeing the type of makeup they use in K-pop (male idol makeup. Natural to the point it’s hard to tell they’re wearing it, or the most obviously point being eyeshadow) did inspire me to try it out, and I like it. More because of the style, not who was wearing it.

But it’s still something I only bother to do for fun or special occasions.

To this day I still dislike western style makeup a lot!

I’ve also always strongly disliked western masculine hairstyles, and liked the Asian style ones more.

In fashion, like I said, I’ve always had an androgynous style, and I’ve always loved to dress up and experiment with clothing. But K-pop definitely improved my style a ton. I dress way better now than I did before I got into K-pop. Obviously not stage-outfit looking, but more of the normal casual or formal looking things.

Anyways, that’s my take. How did this get so long? Sorry for the essay

I used to listen to L'Arc-en-Ciel back in the 2000s I don't really remember if I was into much other Jrock, and Pop Punk and Emo were kinda mainstream stuff you would hear in the mall back in the day.

Never had any desire to dress like the bands I listened to, I honestly found the fashion in the scene to be kinda cringe.

BB cream is the furthest I've gone with makeup, but only a few times. That's very minimal makeup, but even that alone seems like a chore to apply evenly and wash off. I don't see myself doing it frequently, not any time soon. Maybe that will change, but I'm content with a skincare routine for now.

K-pop fashion is a mix of western streetwear and Korean aesthetics. For Korean aesthetics, it's mostly about silhouette. Wide fit everything, but still flattering on the body. An easy way to achieve this is to tuck in your top, whether that's a T-shirt or a button-up shirt. Honestly, it's pretty easy to have the K-pop look. Depending on how comfortable you are, you can keep it subtle or go all out.

Isn't anything wrong with it, just not something I'm interested in personally. I have never been the type of person that felt the need to express inner turmoil to everyone else. They all have stuff they are dealing with as well etc.

Cry about it, get your frustrations out, ask for advice etc whatever you need to do. Though eventually you're going to have to make the changes, put in the effort/hard work and fix the issues in your life or that you have with yourself.

If I got off topic with my last reply, it just wasn't ever a look or style that appealed to me.

Not everyone is going to like the same types of fashion etc.

I mean I mostly follow GG's so generally I don't personally try to follow their style but their style definitely inspires some clothing styles for when I draw people or hairstyles or clothes in general.
