I see a lot of fans of fourth generation groups, especially on Twitter, defending the idea that the fourth generation has surpassed the third. I don't particularly agree with that.
First, it annoys me how people who defend this idea always use numbers or "records" that such a generation group set and that's why they surpassed the third. However, these people do not seem to take into account that many of these records are much more easily achieved today than during the third generation heyday, mainly sales or streams records on Spotify.
Second, this is just my opinion, but I don't see any of the fourth generation groups coming close to the impact that the top third generation groups have had on K-pop. And I'm not even just talking about just BTS and BLACKPINK, which would be the most obvious examples, but even today, having already been five years since the beginning of the fourth generation, I don't see any of the rookie groups coming close to the achievements or impact that groups like EXO, TWICE and Seventeen had and still have today.
Now in your opinion, does it make any sense to say that the fourth generation groups outperformed the third generation in any way?
