Why does no one talk about 1st Gen KPOP?

Not a whole lot to talk about compared to 2nd-3rd gen.

Other than S.E.S. who else is there to mention?

because most kpop fans didn't like kpop during the 1st gen

like myself, i started listening to kpop in 2012...

Lack of international interest and fanbases that keep up with them. Outdated music. Most aren't doing anything rn and they're just old.

Don't see anyone talking about Backstreet Boys or X scape anymore

Most people here weren't even born yet.

1st gen was VERY late 80s/early 90s and was VERY american, not like american inspired. but just typical 80s/90s but in korean. it wasent until 2nd gen where korea started taking some japanese influence and shit got weird and xtra af

+ youd have to be like 45y/o boomer to have lived it properly.

All of 1st gen was before YouTube and broadband internet connection. We depended on the radio and on the TV. And clearly K-pop didn't reach our radios nor our TVs.

Because Youtube debut 2005, around same time than 2nd gen. Youtube paved the way for 2nd gen.

They were pretty good honestly imo. I still keep up with few who are active. And find some songs good.

Problem is that most groups arent active the last 15 or more years. So it was/is impossible for us as i-fans to find anything about them, expect songs and maybe some written informations on the internet written by other fans.

I'm guessing that you're talking about groups such as Sobangcha and Seo Taiji and Boys. While they can certainly be considered K-pop, I view them as predating the whole "generations" discussion.

Maybe it was before everyone’s time. Not even I know much about 1st gen and I’ve been a fan for ten years.

People in Korea may talk about it time to time, but people who lived this era are already old. That time hallyu was mostly from dramas, so no international reach for 1st gen groups.

Some of them are staple in variety shows now. That's the most talk you may get from some of 1st gen idols and musicians. I guess Shinhwa is the most "active" one, but how many fans exist in this forum and how many are willing to create topics about them?

Bcuz this is a western board and H.O.T's reach only got to China.

I genuinely can't recall any 1st gen kpop that I loved. Only 2nd gen. I guess kpop became hugely popular in 2nd gen. everyone in school knew about 2ne1, snsd and wonder girls.

Because it happened like 25 years ago. As mentioned before, most people didn't have any internet connection at that time. kpop was korea exclusive so it was completely unknown outside. In Poland we have a genre called disco polo and it's very popular domestically but i bet none of you know about it. Actually disco polo sounds very similar to early kpop, same levels of cringe :D 1st gen kpop music is outdated and unappealing to today's listeners. Almost all artists ended their careers. There is not much to talk about.
