Honestly when I saw Le Sserafim I instantly liked Eunchae's voice and vibe. Plus everyone was simping over Kazuha and Yunjin and I felt sad people were ignoring SMILE POTATO so I was like imma stan her.
Fast forward to today there is this whole debate on if adults should stan minors or not.
IDK what to do. Personally I believe that as long you don't do anything WIERD or CREEPY you can "stan" anyone you want, with stan just meaning being a fan nothing more.
Can people above 18 stan minors?

I'm facing the same struggle with NewJeans, I love them, but don't sit me right to stan them. They are from another generation, it's even hard to connect with them in a more personal level
It was one of the reasons I connected more easily with Zerobaseone, most of them being older
I'm honestly considering dropping kpop once my favorite groups disbands (if ever), I can't see myself over 30 stanning 14-15 years old idols of 5th gen

Imo you can’t stan them and you’re creepy if you do.
You can be a fan and enjoy their music but you can never be a stan.
there is no justifiable reason for an adult to take personal interest in a child and “stan” them.
Edit : here stan refers to people who follow every action including behind the scenes and vlogs and personal updates of members. If you’re a grown ass adult that much interested in kids lives you’re creepy no two ways about it.

Wait I though stan and fan mean the same thing. Where does "stan" even come from?
-
Then you aren’t a stan? lol. Unless you do those things you’re not a stan 💀
Stan isn’t another word for anyone who likes a group. You have to display a specific set of mega obsessive behaviors.
Change your thread to “fan”
In which case anyone can be a fan of anything.
Isn't stan the same thing as bias?

I dont think that really makes you creepy and trying to make it sound creepy is a bit odd? A stan can also simply be a devoted and enthusiastic.

Millions of people around the world have 'stanned' plenty of minor idols for decades and the world didn't end. And I'm pretty sure people use 'stan' interchangeably with fan nowadays. The same obvious rule for minors applies to them as any other minors. Their brains are still developing and they have few rights compared to adults, and they are also more vulnerable in the world so keep a safe protective distance from them.

Stan originated from Eminem's song about his obsessed fan
You can get the context if you watch

I think stan came from Eminem's song 'Stan'. It should be the origin of the definition (of course the word probably appear long before that, but I think the song solidified what it means). However time changes and people who did not know the origin and meaning of the word, uses it daily to say that they really really like the group.
If you go with the original definition of a stan, it essentially the same as sasaeng. So if you're a proud Stan, you're a proud Sasaeng, in which I don't think that's a good look. But again, the meaning of the word is being interpreted differently now since people don't know its origin. Even if you tell them now, they won't care and categorized themselves as not a sasaeng.
It's KPOP, people have selective decision.

dont bother what people say
only you know if your actions have underlying meanings or not
if you think they are not out of the ordinary from real life, then you shouldnt care what others think
maybe for the sake of your mental health, keep it to yourself
people on the internet will always scrutinize every single action of others and will try to tell everyone they are wrong
if you must care about what everyone here thinks, you shouldnt even call your neighbour's toddler cute

I think each of us have some boundaries. For me, I think it's normal watching their variety content, buying albums, going to concerts. I draw a line for direct interactions, like fanmeetings or fan calls, I know some people defended them in other thread, the interaction is pretty short, but I'm not very excited to talk with teenagers as an adult.

Anythings okay as long as it isnt creepy or sexual.
-
-
Fan not Stan imo
-
As Most have said, as long as you're not sexualizing them, or being incredibly creepy about it, then there should be no problem. they are making music you enjoy, you think the member is cute, there's nothing wrong with that. Kids are cute. As long as you're not behaving innapropriately who the hell cares what you listen to/like/support? People shouldn't age shame anyone, either. As long as you're being respectful, you shouldn't have problems.

I think liking their work is fine (to the extent of saying "Yeah, I like her, she's a good performer") and appreciating them is fine.
If they are the only minor in the group (or minors are the miniority) I think stanning the group and other members is fine.
But actively stanning them, making them your "favorite", having a folder full of their pictures, getting their name tattooed on your chest... that raises eyebrows

idk i have 4th gen groups i like but i can't really "stan" them or connect to them in the way i did 2nd or 3rd gen groups. not bc i think it's creepy but i guess their content is just kinda childish
i bought a nj sweatshirt bc i think their logo is cute and i like them, and i was influenced to buy a pair a sneakers that i saw in one of their ads that i thought were super cute. i like their music. but i don't think i could be more than a casual listener
-
It's quite normal in Japan
Yes and no.
Those kind of middle age idle otakus ARE common, but also viewed as all a bit weird by normies
