It girl has became one of those annoying terms kpop stans overuse

In 3rd gen I understand considering Irene, Hwasa and Jennie it girls all at once. But only one kept her relevancy: Jennie.
Similar to 2nd gen, there are plenty female idols that are justified to call it girls, but everyone knows Suzy is THE it girl.
Now 4th gen it's very clear this person is Wonyoung. But if fans don't want to believe then its not like its going to change anything anyway.
Looking at previous gens time always tell.
-
not at all
It only started getting overused by 4th gen fans
Suzy and Yoona were rightfully called CF queens of their time
Now in 4th gen everyone thinks their bias is "it girl" after filming one CF
That's because Wonyoung is not from big4 and it's unfathomable to kpop fans that the it girl comes from a smaller company. That's why they think every big4 idol has an equal chance.

Another stupid thing we should thank blinks for

It girl isnt someone who just films alot of CFs
Its basically the person all the other girls want to copy and that is why they get CF bc people who copy them will buy their endorsement to look like them
With that definition only Jennie was It Girl in 3rd gen, Irene and Hwasa just filmed alot of CFs
In 2nd gen, Id say Yoona is still holding her own spot
in 4th gen apparently everyone and their mom is it girl

grasping at straws they are

To be honest I do recall Hwasa selling out EVERYTHING she touched or was seen with, but her popularity slowed down since then

I'm just vindictive bc her stans started beef with lockets over I live alone endorsements 🤣

Irene was absolutely everywhere. (She was soju model imo it’s a sign of being a celebrity in Korea) It just the scandal killed her hype.
Hwasa was popular for breaking KBS so she was influential add the fact she had big hits.
Honestly being an it girl is overrated, it’s great but some idols never been called it boy or girl and are still popular.
-
Irene fame started fading in 2019, when people didnt take RV seriously anymore. RV raised again with psycho but it's non promotion era so Irene couldnt came back. Monster didnt help and the video was the knock out. Jennie would eventually take the throne even if Irene scandal doesnt exist. For gen4, it's Wonyoung. Minji can top brand rank for another 12 months but there is no impact from her.

The overuse of the term sorta started in 2nd gen. Like how for example Blackjacks and YG stans started to claim Dara was the 'it girl'. But it was still occurring seldomly.
Then in 3rd gen hardcore stans of all the top groups started to claim their ultimate bias of their main bias groups as 'it girls' with the most farfetched, ludicrous motivations they could come up with. 3rd gen was the generation where terms like 'paving the way', 'it girl', 'organic' etc became a mainstream mainstay in the fanwars and neverending fan propagandaing.
4th gen merely picked up all the bad habits and coinage of 3rd gen, incl 'it girl'. But so far Wonyoung has the most claim to the term 'it girl' of the 4th gen idols.

Gatekeeping IT girl term? Interesting turn of events.

I'm glad other people spoke up about Hwasa before I could get involved. I don't care about some vapid "It Girl" title, but saying Hwasa is irrelevant (she literally just got her own talk show) or only filmed CFs at the peak of her popularity, is actually insane.
She was a literal economic and transformative force in the food industry. She turned a mom and pop's corner market into a huge restaurant, just because she ate there on I Live Alone.
Hwasa stood out precisely because she wasn't just out there modeling luxury brands everywhere--people love her for her personality and realness and obvious talents. Don't sleep on her just because she isn't from a big 3 company.

God, I really misread this line...
Badly.

It's not really gate keeping
It just became an annoying term people call their favs to praise them and put them over others. Just like organic

And on the other hand everyone claims Cha Eunwoo was forever the it-boy in Korea but also yell at eachother when someone names Hyunjin instead
-
Organic monopoly underdog it girl
She got there through payola!

I think it started in the 3rd gen
correct me if I'm wrong
because their is no true IT girl representative in the 3rd Gen ? -

4th Gen It girl is Wonyoung, end of story. Being it girl is more than just getting CFs you have to actually have the individual brand recognition and power. Wonyoung alone can carry herself outside of her group and her name actually has an effect. She doesn't just get CFs because of her company connections or because of the group she is in. Anything she is in always trends for good or for bad. Just look at her number of hashtags with her name on it on tiktok and compare it to any other female idol right now, not to mention when you look at Korea, her ads are literally everywhere. I don't see any other 4th gen female idol with as much influence as her.

for me
the most annoying terms in KPOP is talent
once you became a KPOP artist or idol
you are talented enough comparedto the rest of the population
Disagree but that's another thread

I too read big hits as something else lol.

It is not annoying if we don't look into it too deeply

IT girls and none of them are even good with computers smh

It's overused term because it's been diluted to include almost anyone. The thing is if you compare what it girls were achieving back then to now, the difference in criteria can mean almost any one can be considered it girl. A new it girl pops up every few weeks. If everyone is eligible then it's no longer anything special.
The likes of Yoona, Suzy and Taeyeon are all the pinnacles of what it girls are. They're not just pretty faces that get CFs - a lot of idols would qualify in that case - it's their dominance in the their fields and public at large. Yoona and Suzy were dominating CFs of course but they also had a ton of dramas/movies, appeared in a ton of TV shows etc. Taeyeon was a chart topper as rookie, a TV star and had a fair few CFs. All 3 were widely known by the public across all ages and to this day this retain their popularity and influence esp Taeyeon and Yoona. IU is a final boss that is bigger than all 3, a true it girl even if she's not an idol
Since then while there have been popular idols like Hwasa, Seolhyun, Irene, Jennie etc but none of them have managed to have such a wide appeal or lasting impact on their respective fields. Irene was mainly known for her looks and CFs but threw it all way in a few years, Jennie is similar but longer lasting, Hwasa was one who was changing the game with less focus on traditional looks and still having stuff like successful music and TV career with her being arguably closest to the likes of Taeyeon in career but she too lost steam in the last few years.
So yeah the term is overused because the criteria has loosened up to where just racking up CFs is enough to be considered it girl.
-
Except that Minji and her group have been getting all the A grade CFs since December, while other(s) are only getting B and C grade CFs now.
The "other" went viral for all "b or c grades" she endorsed and actually made people talk about it. She is the prime example of why it girls are a thing. That's the difference between an it girl and an idol that gets "A grade" cfs thanks to their company connections.
Like the other person said, no impact no it girl.
