Aespa completely dominating last year was fun to watch but seeing how girl groups completely destroyed the charts this year is fascinating. There not being a clear winner makes it moreso
If 2nd gen had 2011, 3rd gen had 2018, then 2022 was definitely a year 4th gen didn't waste. And it's not like Aespa did bad this year either

I think it depends on what you find fun
On one hand we have many hits this year, so it’s more competitive and hence more interesting.
On the other hand, Some people like when there is a “one top” group or “one top hit” it feels exciting to have a front runner for 4th gen. Kpop fans like to be able to brag. If there are many songs and groups with hits, you don’t have exclusivity in bragging lol. Which kpop fans love.
Barely any of my faves had a miss this year, amazing year for music
Like OP said and i said in the ANON musically speaking Kpop was more interesting in 2022 because we had more hits of course
but i do agree with the fact that 2021 was a very exciting year overall for kpop
because we clearly saw a shift in KPOP in 2021 for 4th gen
pre-2021 4th gen GG were struggling to cement themselves as serious contender in korea
I do think the success of Aespa made Koreans more invested in 4th gen GG again with the success of Next level
Itzy were able to get a minor hit after a year of struggle
same for Idle who were struggling to get recognition in korea since senorita flop
lesserafim, NJ, etc.. smashed with their debut
and i also think that what makes it really exciting it's beecause it was this narrative of the underdog going after the titan, BTS released Butter who did well around the same time than Next level who become a masive hit out of nowhere and everybody was curious to see the end of the year to see who will come out of this battle
if i can compare it to something, it kinda remind me a wrestling match
2022 is one of this good Fatal four away match ( a match with 4 wrestler) where you get ton of stunts etc.. your're into it but not completely
while 2021 was more like a 1vs1 between a heavyweight like Batista against a luchador like Rey Mysterio, you completely get into it at the first second because you're rooting for the luchador who's the underdog and want to see if he'll be the one to finally beat the heavyweight
kinda like david vs goliath
i don't know if it's clear, but if you are a wrestling fans i think you can kinda see what i mean
2022 is more fun for people that like the music itself. Lots more bops and variety
2021 was more fun for success stans and company stans, who are starving this year with such a constantly shifting landscape.
I like 2022 more.
Second this. I have more kpop songs in my playlist from this year compare to last year. Really love this year released.
I cared about Next Level but not their other songs.

Drama when we have only few idols who are dominating is boooooorrrrrriiinnggggg. This year everyone is fighting tooth and nail because there is no clear winner.
Aespa did that though. Next Level now has almost 1.1 BILLION Gaon points. In this day and age where Gaon points are declining precipitously, what Aespa accomplished was truly a huge cultural reset. Celebrity had a massive head start by several months but NL has almost caught up to it, probably around 70 million points behind. In comparison, neither Butter nor Lovesick Girls has reached 1B Gaon points afaik.
Next Level ended third generation, call them the giant slayers, call them the dragon slayers, call them the Davids to the Goliaths of BTS and IU and BP, but that's what they did. We were witnessing history.

A new SM based revolution almost occurred but the long obsession of SM with boy groups made aespa change course, and while aespa had more sales, it was stomped by other acts this yeaer
