i mean... the point here is that when ou put it into perspective they're celebrating an artist that has had some huge digital hits in sk in this decade... outcharting rookie groups. trendy or not, thats the fact. and also the "best year being their first year" thing tends to only apply to big 4 groups, which ive is not mind you

Zico doesn't have a big fandom so his songs totally rely on GP acceptance to become hits. Just because some of his songs aren't hits doesn't mean he's a fad or washed up. It just means that his song wasn't popular, but every time he puts out a song people at least give him a chance which is more than the vast majority of solo artists in Korea. Some of them are hits, some aren't. He probably is the most popular male solo artist in SK and has been since like 2015 (at least on average).

IU is literally the only artist who gets a smash hit every time and yet I feel like solo artists on this forum are often held to her standard which is just ridiculous as no group or soloist can match that (or probably ever will at this point).

The song is utterly and completely generic, i have no clue why this is trending, it sounds like every other male rap song out there.

Not really, because in K-pop, for groups from major agencies, the rookie years are their strongest years, whereas it becomes increasingly tougher for veterans to stay on the top ranks.

So the usual dynamic of - don't use veterans against rookies, is not always applicable. It depends on the context.

Zico songs usually do well in the charts so it’s not a surprise but okay, I’m here for it if you had just wanted to celebrate your fave.

I can look all across the forum and see people praising their faves without shading other groups with chart update and performance threads.

(You’re actually shading three groups here but I pointed out BP specifically because they’ve been getting the most lately with lots of nugu posters popping up solely to crap on them.)

He is no IU, but he is popular for sure.

Not every Zico single goes viral, but he is perfectly capable of doing so and does more often than not.
