Changed the title of the thread from “So Korea to have an opinion poll on BTS enlistment?” to “So Korea to have an opinion poll on BTS enlistment? Decision soon”.
  • This is high key annoying and still effing cryptic. What are they gonna have the public vote on exactly? Is it going to be an official election? Are they gearing up for campaigns?????

Its gonna be soon, whatever it is cause Jin has to enlist before 4th Dec. So it cannot be dragged any further. They have mentioned that they will have a deadline for it. I am expecting a decision soon after Busan concert.

  • could we a source other than twitter tho, I'd like more context if possible

It is a Naver translation from a reliable translation acct, source is official

  • I remember last time they gave us a date... :pepe-comfy:

I remember a g dragon stan account who knows Korean following every news about it and translating and when the date came, being happy saying it's over. It was hilarious and pathetic

Anyway, it's a set up waiting to happen. Like I heard they have a crab in a barrel mentality and don't like situations like this when someone can benefit from it (ofc son heung min likes do not count, they go hard for their athletes and I'm not complaining).

I feel like it's not going to go the way the government wants them to go, BUT maybe they will get an easier service. I read that all ambassadors will have to attend the ceremony in 2023 when they announce the city winner, so they most likely will get some kind of a different route than other soldiers do. I do hope they will get an exemption.

  • I bet even if the members wanted to serve, the government will encourage them into the alternative service where they will be beholden to the government. The amount of pressure and frustration over such an important part of their lives must be devastating for them. It makes the hiatus make a lot more sense honestly.

Officials have been hanging it over their heads for a few years now.

I'm still gobsmacked that the Busan officials thought it appropriate to go meet with jimin and jks parents in order to get them to agree to the expo concert. And the fact that they want them to put on concerts all over the world to promote the expo and busan. It'll probably count as their 544 hours but they can't get paid for the gruelling amount of work they will do while touring. Hybe will take in all those millions instead to spend it fucking up the other members solos and their shoddy PR game probably.

Let them all go for 18 months. The comeback would be astronomical and the flimsy Knetz and Kmedia would never have anything to hold over their heads if the boys start going against the status quo and living their life how they want to.

  • this will end in outrage

probably all men which already served will vote that they want BTS to enlist

even if poll will show 60% for not enlistment

then it will easily create more hate

this kind of things doesn't help at all, just announce they will work as 'goodwill' ambassadors do some good deeds here and there, and visit some military bases, to meet soldiers, after doing 3-4 weeks of basic military training

    also they are performers

why not make them do some free concerts for military in few biggest Korean military bases?

I don't think the poll is for full exemption but alt service.

  • Bold is being planned. They won't do full exemption but alt service which is about a month of training. Athletes also get the same.

  • Let's not assume the boys cannot decide for themselves. If they want to serve they will, if they accept alt service it will be their own decision too. They are not children who are being stopped from serving and being pressurised to stay back. These are the same men who took a break from group music despite knowing the consequences of their action.

They have the power to decide for themselves what is best for them. They live in Korea and know better than all of us how going for an alt service affects them.

I keep seeing a lot of what ifs and apocalyptic dread filled assumptions on stan twitter and Armys making up theories about what will happen to them if they accept alt service, when we have zero idea of what happens behind the scenes and cannot see the future.

  • A public opinion poll across the entire country?!? I need to see the details of how they are going to do this lol. It can’t just be a random sampling of several thousands in an area only etc. They have to ensure across demographics and country to get real consensus.

going to be costly. Will the public agree?

  • There’s so much misinformation here. Lemme put this thread

  • Fans say they government are pushing for this exception because they need bts, but the government keeps doing thingsat make it seem like they are doing bts a favour with the exemption. Like they said it was to be granted for their contribution to sk economy etc, but now they are asking the public to make the decision? . And all I see is hybe obediently waiting for the final decision like their lives depend on it. If this is something being granted in honour of their contribution like some said, then it is rather insulting to treat this matter this way making them a laughing stock. The reaction from Koreans on this poll is already mostly negative

  • the public already wants them to go even if armys win this poll. This is getting interesting let me get my popcorn :pepe-popcorn:

It'll be split 50/50 with males voting for them to enlist and females voting for them to get an exemption
