If Sungchan and Shotaro are too debut, then the unit they will debut into will require a at least a few more new members. That's my controversial white hot take, which should honestly be quite obvious to everyone really.

I think there's a semantics problem here. There's a huge difference between simply saying you don't like something (which is fine) and between using illogical or factually wrong arguments to prove your subjective opinion.

It's fine for you to dislike the NCT system but it's factually wrong to claim NCT fans dislike it too or that it won't work for long when it has already worked for long and it keeps generating better results every year.

My hard cold take is that NCT will keep going strong for several years to come, but let's just wait and see. It's not like we can predict the future anyway.

EXO should have released more music/promoted better in 2018. Tempo and Love Shot did well both internationally and in Korea and to not capitalize on EXO’s popularity in 2018 was literally the worst thing SM could have done. A last quarter comeback and dipping when they were at their literal peak was such a terrible decision. But it’s SM so what can we expect.

Red Velvet's overall success is massively overrated because of their hits on Korea.

I don't understand why you start a hot takes thread then get cranky because people disagree with your hot take. I mean that's kind of the point of a hot take? You come in hot, other people may come in hot, too.

To answer the original question, my SM hot takes:

- SM has always been experimental.

People crying about the old days or the way the music used to be have forgotten that in the old days and the way the music people used to be that people at the time were crying about being too weird/experimental/dissonant then too.

- SM doesn't know what to do in China and it shows.

I post updates from NCT members and Winwin's studio (managed by someone other than SM) posts new content every day on Weibo, as well as keeping him booked and busy. The WayV social accounts go weeks and months without being touched.

- SM overcommits, then doesn't know how to execute.

For example, they made a NCT Lab series for new music and dance performances and can't seem to land something every month. Like you have a whole portion of your company that's meant for content, what? They cram the comebacks for EXO solos and NCT into a 4 month period at the end of the year where they're tripping over each other and not getting the maximum profit and attention they could get with more breathing room. If they still can't figure out how to manage the three active NCT units, how are they going to add the next two?

- The NCT system works just fine but picking on it is just another way to downplay the group's success

I kinda get what you mean, NCT's idea of creating new units and adding members is risky, K-pop industry moves very fast and fans wants shiny new things and group easy to understand. Adding members makes a group seem less exclusive and makes it hard to empathize with the group as a whole. With time, if more and more members and units are added, it's more and more difficult for a casual fan to get into NCT or try to understand it, and even if the members are new, because they'll debut under an already known brand, they won't get as much hype as if it was a new bg.

Yoo Young Jin may be a well known producer for making numerous Korean Hits however I've always felt that he isn't the right person to take a helm aimed for International success. He is SM's biggest achilles heel for their wet dream aka Western relevancy.

Oh my I have a lot! Though I could definitely say just as much about any company.

1. I hope SM’s new boy group focuses on the domestic market and lets the international market come organically.

2. I need Aespa to sing live more, and release more vocal/dance covers!

3. Very unpopular, but I think SM did the right thing with shifting fully to solo promotions following Love Shot for EXO.

4. Idols who want to act should start with several supporting roles, improve, and then audition for lead roles.

5. I’ve read some mixed reactions on this, but I think NCT should just stop adding members after the Japan unit debuts.

6. SM overestimated the popularity that WayV could bring, and now they just don’t know what to do with the group.

7. I kinda hope SMs new boy group doesn’t have any Chinese members.

8. I wish some of the ex-SM rookies debuted with the current aespa members.

9. I think SM should debut another girl group soon.

10. SM needs to start having/letting their artists contribute more to their music and overall direction.

11. The lip syncing is getting quite annoying.

12. I need Seulgi to debut solo. I think this should have happened years ago.
